The crowd was going crazy, and Johnny's grin seemed fixed to his face as he played. He couldn't help himself from shouting along with Euterpe, "I done told you once, you son of a bitch, I'm the best there's ever been!"
The final notes rang out, and Johnny could dimly hear the crowd in front of him, and Jenny's whoop of joy behind him. His hands shook with adrenaline, and he bowed to the crowd, feeling more alive than he had in months.
He gently sat the fiddle down and brought his guitar back around to the front, taking his seat again. "I think we just set the bar very high for ourselves," he said, and the crowd laughed and whooped.
