"Too cute," Euterpe told Jenny, taking a more careful sip from her bottle. "Been a real long time since I even had a kid," she mused, and had to fight the almost unbearable urge to look at Johnny then. The uncomfortable feeling of knowing two people in a conversation were suddenly thinking about the exact same thing while pretending they weren't.
Thankfully she spotted the manager coming over and said, "hey, that's my guy!" Stuck in the booth beside Jenny, Euterpe stood up on the seat and slipped one of her cowboy-booted feet over and jumped to the floor. "Arj, so glad you could make it!"
She hugged the mortal and Arj grinned at her and said, "anything for you, Euterpe." And, honestly, he'd never meant anything more in his life. Euterpe was incredible. How could he resist wanting to help out a literal goddess?
Euterpe turned her attention back to the table. "Guys, this is my dear friend, Arj, and he's been running this place for years now. Arj," this is Jenny and Johnny." She leaned in a little closer and with a grin said, "they're the gods of Country Music."
Arj nearly lost his mind, babbling about what a pleasure it was, how amazing it was, how country music was his life, how there had been that time when he was a teenager and he was feeling like he couldn't take it-, how his first girlfriend had been in a country band and-, about how all drinks were on him, no, it's fine, whatever you guys want, it's totally on him and, hey Toby! Go get that good whiskey we've got hidden in the cellar!
