Jenny squeezed her shoulder. "Good," she said, nodding. "I didn't want to leave you on your own while you were feeling like that. It's never a good place to be."
Johnny had poured drinks for both of them, and he lifted his glass in a silent salute to the Muse across the table. Their relationship might have been long over, but that didn't mean he didn't still think very highly of her.
"We're alright," he answered. "In town to wrangle with management and whatnot, and all the headaches that come with that." Behind her glass, Jenny rolled her eyes in agreement. "We're still debating over whether or not to stay in town for the holidays."
"My vote is yes," Jenny added helpfully.
"And mine is no," Johnny replied. "Because, as my daughter so aptly pointed out, I am a grumpy old man."
