Before Homonoia and her mother were taken back for her appointment, she had left a message for the receptionist that when her husband arrived she wanted him to come back and sit in. When he did show up, she smiled, "It's alright. We're just starting."
Praxidike offered Kyle a pleasant smile. "Hello, Kyle."
The tech offered a friendly smile, then explained to the three of them, "We're just going to check and make sure the baby is developing as expected. I do have to tell you that if I find anything at all out of the ordinary I'm only allowed to pass it along to your doctor and she would go over it with you." Homonoia nodded. She understood why the tech had to give her that spiel, but it was still slightly unnerving. "Did you want to know the baby's gender?"
Homonoia simply nodded.
"Alright, let's get started," said the tech as she began. She explained everything she saw and what the machine's measurements were for their baby. Everything looked good so far and the tech confirmed a very healthy baby.
When it was time for the big reveal Homonoia kept her eyes on the monitor. She had her suspicions, but hadn't said anything to anyone because it might seem like she could read minds or something. The tech typed something that showed up on the monitor and smiled at Homonoia. It read 'IT'S A GIRL!' When Homonoia read it aloud, she repeated it. "It's a girl," she said sounding a little bewildered. Somehow she had already known, which somehow took away from the excitement. But she still looked at Kyle with a smile, knowing he had wanted a boy. "Maybe a boy next time."
Praxidike looked pleased throughout the entire ultrasound and then even more so when she found out she would have a granddaughter, "That's wonderful. Congratulations, you two."
