What: Everything sucks
When: Backdated to Sunday
Where: Kemp house
Warnings: Drinking, TBD
Once they were up and able to (mostly) move under their own power, Jamie and Roxanna said their goodbyes and thank yous, then set off for the Kemp house. When they arrived, they mumbled hello to Thomas and Lena, and stumbled up the stairs to their bedrooms.
Roxanna peeled off Jamie's hoodie and shoes, then tucked him into bed. "We're both going to have a nap," she said, standing back up slowly and wincing from her small exertion. "And when we're up again and hopefully feeling better, we're going to have a talk. And I'm taking most of your alcohol."
"I hate you," Jamie muttered, but there was no sting to it, and he was already burrowing deeper into his blankets.
"Yeah, I know," she said around a yawn, heading down the hall to her own room.
Five or six hours later, they were both awake, and after downing water and painkillers, they had made a simple meal they were pretty sure wouldn't make them throw up. They took it back to Jamie's room, and closed the door behind them. This wasn't exactly a conversation to broadcast.
Roxanna let him get down a few bites of food, but once she was ready, she went straight for the jugular. "So let's talk about the fact that you forgot you had a fiance there for a little while," she said, sounding like she was commenting on the weather.
Jamie glared darkly at her. "I didn't forget," he retorted. "If anyone's forgotten, it's him. I mean, when was the last time he came by the house? It's like school has taken over his entire life, I'm lucky if I get a handful of text messages in a day."
"OK, fair enough," she agreed. "But coming back to my point I made that night. I've never seen you act like that around Jayden before. I mean, ever. He might have been all shy and cute around you at some point, but that's because I'm pretty sure that's his default setting when he's getting to know someone."
Jamie sighed. "I'm not-I mean, yes, he's adorable and a total sweetheart," he agreed. "And I do love Theseus, and I mean that. I just...I feel like I'm putting more into this relationship than I'm getting out of it. And it's supposed to be between equals. I don't want to get married feeling like I'm not as important to him as he is to me. I do understand that he loves his work, I love mine too. But there has to be a balance that can be achieved, and lately, we haven't found it. And I'm getting tired of waiting for him."
"And you've tried talking to him?" she asked, sipping some more of her 7-Up.
"I try every other day, it seems like!" Jamie exclaimed. "When I get through at all, we talk for maybe 10 minutes and then he has to go. I got 20 minutes the other day and felt like I'd accomplished something. Which is not how you're supposed to feel. And I haven't even mentioned the fact I haven't gotten laid in months. So yeah. I was lonely and very drunk, and probably acted like an idiot. And I should also probably apologize."
"I'm not terribly sure he noticed," Roxanna mused. "I mean, I did because I know you. I know your baseline normal, and when it's off. And Jayden's kind of a lightweight when it comes to alcohol. So you might have gotten away with this one. I'd still advise not doing it again, or you might end up doing something you won't be able to take back."
"I'm not a cheater," Jamie said hotly. "I wouldn't do that."
"I know you're not, sweetie," she replied soothingly. "Of course you're not. But booze can make even the most rational person think they're OK to drive, and they end up wrapping their car around a tree. You weren't really yourself last night. I'm just saying be careful. And speaking of which, I'm still taking most of your booze, don't think I've forgotten."
Jamie sat quietly as she checked his usual hiding places, collecting the admittedly small stash and putting it in a bag. "I'm not dumping it, don't worry," she said. "We'll just spread out when we consume it."
"Yeah, that's fair," Jamie sighed. Then he yawned again. "God, I'm still tired."
"You and me both," she said, with a yawn of her own. "Sleep time for me. Love you, goofball. I'll see you in the morning."
"Love you too," Jamie told her. He got up to close the door behind her, then leaned against it and sighed. Then he headed over to the cabinet where he kept his art supplies. Roxanna hadn't checked there, because of their unspoken agreement. He didn't mess with her drums, she didn't mess with his supplies. The cabinet, however, was big enough to house a few airplane-sized bottles of liquor, and Jamie stared at them for a few long moments, before closing the cabinet and getting ready for bed. If he wanted them, they'd still be there tomorrow. And gods knew he probably would.
