Helen nodded, still unable to look back up at him. "Right." She just sat there staring down into her lap. Things had gone from pleasant enough to painfully awkward. She felt horrible that he was taking this so badly. He couldn't hide his feelings from her. He never could. She turned sideways in her seat so that she wasn't facing him anymore. She didn't know why it started or why they were there, she thought she was all dried up, but she wiped some tears from her cheeks. She hated being a disappointment. She hated herself. "I'm going to go before I make this worse."
