"Some people don't have tiny spawn," Joey joked, kissing her head lightly. He checked his watch nervously, but managed to make his voice not shake. "Just about thirty more seconds."
He counted out the seconds silently in his head, until his clock ticked over to midnight. Around them the sky burst into blooming colour as fireworks erupted from all angles. Joey turned Nikkie around so he was facing her and he smiled widely. "I didn't think this through because I have to shout!" he said, over the sound of explosions. He had a feeling she would get the idea though when he went down on one knee and looked up at her.
"You're perfect and I love you!" he yelled. "So much! And I really want you to marry me!" He would have been much more poetic about the entire thing, but it was hard with all the noise. Instead he reached into the pocket of his jacket and he pulled out the ring, offering it up to her.
