The ride to the hospital seemed to be both interminably long, and yet take no time at all. The second they set foot inside, Nikkie was registered, bundled into a wheelchair, and carted off to be admitted. She was hooked up to machines, given a gown and an IV, and settled in to wait on the doctor.
