Everything out of his mouth was something new. Surprising, and part of her wondered why he felt the need to tell her. Did he think it was going to make her run back into his arms as if nothing had ever happened? No. She wasn't going to let him pull the rug out from under her again. She wasn't going to be a rug at all for him, and the cold stare she gave him was one he'd completely deserved. It wasn't the most ladylike of things for her to do, but she wanted him to know that if he wanted to be around her again, it wasn't going to be easy. Maybe within the first month she would have caved, but she wasn't now.
"You like cats John?" She wanted to keep calling him by his last name, saying his first felt too personal, and yet she still said it. "I would have never guessed." She didn't say much, but it was evident in her voice that there was more behind them than just becoming a casual acquaintance, at least that's what her date was starting to realize.
