Isabelle had grown since John last saw her. She wasn't the wreck he'd left her. She'd moved on, forged a better relationship with her parents, and progressed in her studies. She didn't even think of him anymore. She'd grown wiser, and more experienced with men and in making friends. She wasn't dependent on anyone. She lived on her own, with a roommate from school. She was a woman, not some girl that John had treated like a trophy. She had blossomed.
She walked past him, not even noticing him at all as she laughed and smiled at her current boyfriend. Maybe he wasn't the right one, but Isabelle wasn't looking for greeting card romance anymore. She was exploring herself and her options.
