He gripped her hand (or he hoped it was her hand) and kicked for the surface as hard as he could. He gasped in air as he came up, struggling to haul Temperance after him. He leaned backwards, pulling her against his chest so he could hold her up. She looked frightful, pale and greenish, the remnants of Envy's paint still holding around her hairline and eyes, her skin slippery to the touch and difficult to hold.
"Stay with me," Patience said, wrapping one arm around her chest and using the other to swim back towards land.
