"If you'd found me about five years ago, it might have been different," Jesse sighed, closing the door behind them. "But I grew up a lot since then, and I can only carry enough hate over the long haul for one person. I'm not really sure I could stay mad at y'all if I tried, if I ever really was."
"Dad said he'd toss us out too, if we said anything," Isaiah added. "Basically he wanted to pretend you didn't exist at all."
Jesse sighed again. "That doesn't surprise me. But hey, Adrian, it's great that you'll be living here now. I'm tired of not seeing all of you, of knowing nothing that's going on in your lives. We should...we should fix that."
