"There's only about 4 things in that safe that can't actually be replaced," Alexander retorted. "And they're all from the time I was alive, so I like to know they're safe."
He stuck out his tongue at Richard, laughing quietly. "Fair enough," he agreed. "Just be ready for me."
It was always fun to watch Richard intimidate someone into believing what he wanted them to believe, and he watched for a moment before slipping behind the horse and running his hand over its flank. The beast neighed but didn't spook, which he'd come to expect over years of dealing with and owning horses. They responded to him well.
Looking for something to give him a hand, he noticed that the saddle strap was loose. He shook his head, that was just sloppy. But he could make that work for him. He quietly undid the straps with deft fingers, and then, wrapping one firmly around his hand, he gave a huge jerk with all his strength. It had the intended effect, and the officer took a rather ungraceful tumble into the grass.
Alexander vaulted onto the horse, running his hands over its neck in attempt to calm it down. "Shh, shh, it's alright," he said into its ear. "He didn't deserve you, we just want to have some fun." The horse calmed itself beneath his ministrations, and he reached down for Richard, to pull him up behind him. "Let's get out of here, before his friends come back!"
