Maddy squeezed his hand. "I know you are," she said, smiling up at him. "Thank you."
"Someone clearly wants to have a baby today," Dr. Katz said, coming into the room and smiling at the pair of them. "I was sort of hoping you'd wait at least another week, but at this point, you should both be alright." She took Maddy's pulse, hooked her up to various machines, and checked how much she was dilated. "You're at 6 centimeters, so that's a good sign."
"Says you," Maddy laughed, breathy and slightly strained.
