WHO: Mary & Huitzilopochtli WHEN: Wednesday night (2012-02-02 ) WHERE: Their place WHAT: Evil cheating ladies
Mary had been incredibly well behaved. She had been faithful to her Aztec for longer than she'd ever been faithful to anyone or anything. (Except for Jesus. She would be faithful to him always, even if they were now caught on different plains. He was the only constant she believed in.)
But tonight was the night she had slipped completely. She'd flirted with men before: she'd kissed them, she'd let them slip a hand beneath her clothing for a moment or two, but always she'd stopped it. Tonight she hadn't. Tonight she'd fucked a man she'd never seen before and would never seen again and while she felt guilty, some part of her also felt better. That anonymous sex was so much of what she had always been since her rebirth. It was difficult to forget it completely.
It was late as she crept back into the warehouse, taking off her heels at the door so that she wouldn't make so much sound against the floor. Her body felt like it was all on fire, her heart still racing and her hair knotted.
Huitzilopotchli never slept. And when he did, it was never long. Too many eons spend fighting his sister and her minions had made it so even night wasn't restful to him. And he still had enough belief he didn't require the sleep.
So most nights he found his way to the balcony, where he could sit on the railing and overlook the city. Heights didn't bother him, and even with the cold he managed to enjoy the view.
This evening he'd come back from a kill. He'd carved out a small little portion of this neighborhood for his own, and he rarely tolerated intruders. When he felt Mary more then heard her he turned around before looking back to the city. She would know where he was and come to see him or not.

"Hi," she said, leaning in the doorway with a little smile. Her voice was quiet in the darkness, the shadows closing in around them and encouraging her silence. She had wanted to have a shower before seeing him, sure she smelled of some strange man.

[info]bluehummingbird 2012-02-02 02:48 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select He turned to look at her and frowned. Something was off, but he couldn't put a name to it. He never asked where she went, because she didn't ask it of him. "Hello," He glanced to the sky for a moment before he turned around and climbed off the balcony.
He closed the doors and turned on a light, giving her an odd look before putting his knife aside. He wasn't sure if he should ask or not. Normally he'd avoid the things he didn't know enough about by distracting himself with his birds, but they'd been moved to a warmer place for the winter.

[info]gospel_of_mary 2012-02-02 02:57 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select Mary noticed the expression, perhaps because she was looking for it. She had promised her hummingbird that she wouldn't keep secrets from him and so she knew what she had to do.
Without moving from where she stood she said, "I had sex with someone tonight." She wasn't exactly ashamed of what she'd done, but she didn't like the idea of hurting him with it. She hoped that he understood that much at least. "I'm sorry," she added quietly.

[info]bluehummingbird 2012-02-02 03:14 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select He'd expected something like this, but it didn't stop knowing that from hurting. He understood her, or at least made an effort to try, and realized this was part of her. But it still hurt to know that he'd never have her completely.
Part of him wanted to find this man and rip out his heart. Another part wanted to tell her to go away. He didn't like feeling this conflicted, and he blamed her for opening that part of him. He didn't like having grey in his usual world of black and white.
He sighed and shook his head, unsure of how to act. And that he liked even less. So he just walked to the kitchen to find the pieces of heart his warriors had set aside.

[info]gospel_of_mary 2012-02-02 03:20 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select Mary didn't know what was expected of her now any more than he did. She'd never been in a relationship before and while she understood men when it came to sex, men when it came to romance and heartache was a different thing completely.
So she followed at a distance and remained at the edge of the kitchen. "Do you want me to leave you alone?"

[info]bluehummingbird 2012-02-02 03:28 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select He took the jar out of the fridge and watched it before he looked to her. "I do not know." Which was the truth. He didn't know. He knew he loved her. He knew she'd never be fully his. But after all this time he'd begun to hope a little, and knowing it had proved to be false still stung.
Then again, he also knew there were plenty of things about him that may hurt her, not the least his need to eat human hearts. He sat down and toyed with the jar in his hands. "I do not like not knowing what to do. I am conflicted."

[info]gospel_of_mary 2012-02-02 03:37 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select "I don't know either," Mary admitted. She sat down as well, choosing the seat at the table that would put her the furthest from him. She didn't think they were exactly on snuggling terms at the moment.
She traced her finger along the woodgrain in front of her instead of watching him. "But I promised I wouldn't lie to you, and so I couldn't."

[info]bluehummingbird 2012-02-02 03:47 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select "I appreciate that," he did. At least he wouldn't have to wonder and guess. He nibbled on the pieces of meat before setting it aside. "I told you once I understood you. I try to do this. I understand myth. Myth is what requires me to eat what I do, so I keep strong." He shrugged, "however it does hurt knowing I cannot have all of you. I am, at heart, selfish." Speaking truth seemed like a good idea. He sighed, "but I love you. I do not like the grey you introduced me to. I do not not knowing how to act. But my feelings remain. Maybe they shouldn't."
Shrugging he rose, "As you speak truth so do I. Had I the choice I would keep you to myself. But you would change things of me if you could I think. Go shower. I will be here."

[info]gospel_of_mary 2012-02-02 04:01 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select Mary didn't even need to consider if she would change parts of him, because there was no doubt on that. She would take away the part that was a murderer and a cannibal because when she thought on how she allowed herself to be with someone who could do those things she felt like she truly must be the worst person in the world. To be in love with a man who took life like Huitzilopochtli did must make her as much of the worthless whore as the others saw her as.
But she couldn't change that and she couldn't rip it out. The blood would always be part of him.
After a moment she stood up with a nod and walked slowly towards the door. There she paused and turned back. "I love you," she promised him. Then she carried on to clean herself up.

[info]bluehummingbird 2012-02-02 04:05 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select He nodded at her promise. He knew that. She wouldn't return to him, if she didn't. She wouldn't hold back and try not to change him. It should be enough, but it wasn't. He didn't know what to think about that.
He ran his fingers through his hair and wished he had someone to go to for advice about all this. He might still ask Quetzalcoatl, in the faint hope that his friend knew more then he did.
But he did as promised and waited, passing the time by nibbling on the remains.

[info]gospel_of_mary 2012-02-02 04:13 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select Mary had scrubbed herself clean, wanting every trace of that other man gone from her skin. Not for herself - the lingering smell of a man against her flesh had always been something of a comfort - but for Huitzilopochtli.
When she returned to the kitchen her clothes were far more casual, sweatpants and a t-shirt that her wet hair was already making dark marks down the back of.
She'd half expected him to be gone when she returned but there he was, her Aztec, just waiting. She reentered with a small smile and crossed to the fridge, pulling out a bottle of water and opening it. She wasn't quite sure what to say. Maybe this was supposed to be a silent moment.

[info]bluehummingbird 2012-02-02 04:22 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select He watched her for a moment or two before he rose and walked behind her. Not knowing what else to do he set his hands on her shoulders and leaned his chin on her head. He still had the urge to kill whoever had touched her, and he was a bit annoyed on how he couldn't. It would hurt her, and he didn't want to make this any worse then how it already was.
He leaned down and set his head on her shoulder and set his hands around her waist. This was complicated and he didn't fully like complicated.

[info]gospel_of_mary 2012-02-02 04:35 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select She tilted her head to the side, gently nuzzling his cheek for a moment. She put the water bottle down and her hands moved to cover his on her stomach.
Mary had almost begun to think that perhaps their relationship wasn't as complicated as she'd first thought, but tonight was reminding her that it was and that it always would be.
Listening to his breathing, Mary kissed his cheek and then whispered, "do you want me to stay in my own room tonight?" Much of the time her own bedroom there was a formality, a place she needed sometimes just to get away to and feel uncrowded in that building. A month ago she'd even gotten rid of her apartment, making that room her sole hiding place. They truly were living together now, and she spent most nights in Huitzilopochtli's bed.

[info]bluehummingbird 2012-02-02 04:48 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select "No, it's fine. Stay with me." He needed to know he still had a part of her. Most of the time he sat while she slept, not needing it himself, but her presence near him always calmed him. Having her near tonight would soothe a lot of his rage, he knew that, even if he would just watch her.
He kissed her shoulder and released her. He was still conflicted and there was still anger in his blood, but not as much as there had been. He wasn't sure what it all meant that he could accept all this so easily, but he had no answers and continuing his questions wouldn't be productive. "Now what?"

"This is all new to me as well," she told the Aztec as she turned slowly to look at him. "No one before you has ever lasted long enough to have this sort of conversation."

[info]bluehummingbird 2012-02-02 05:08 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select He wondered if it was he was just too stubborn to really let her go. He didn't know though, but he didn't know a lot of things. "I cannot aks you not to do this, but I can ask it not happen too often. As I said, I am selfish." Shrugging he set his hand on her cheek, "and I will try not to hunt them down and kill them."

[info]gospel_of_mary 2012-02-02 05:13 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select She blinked in surprise, not having considered that murder had been an option. But of course it was. Violence was how Huitzilopochtli chose to solve his problems so why not this one. "Try not to," Mary nodded. "I don't think he deserved to die." She turned her head to kiss his hand. "And I'll try too. But neither of us can be anything we're not."

[info]bluehummingbird 2012-02-02 05:24 pm UTC (link) DeleteFreezeScreenTrack This Select He smiled to the kiss, "I understand that. I am merely explaining." He dropped his han and sighed, "I never imagined myself to have this conversation." He shook his head, "hungry? I am sure I can find you something?" Taking care of her, making sure she had what she needed, was simple and something he could do. The more he thought of this, the more confusing it became. Doing something familiar would help.
