Jayden had expected a fight or at the very least, a greeting. All he had wanted while he was on his way home, was to be able to escape into his room without Jesse making a big deal about it. Now that Jesse wasn't, Jayden was just a little bit crushed.
Oh god, what if Jesse hated him now? It was nothing more than he deserved anyway. Jayden had figured it would only take Jesse a little while to realise what a relentless waste of oxygen he was. His own father had figured it out, Jesse just hadn't seen him in so long he hadn't known.
It wouldn't be long before Jesse was treating him the same way Richard had. Jayden couldn't even be surprised.
"We didn't know you were coming home," JJ said, since Jesse hadn't. "You want breakfast?"
"I ate at the hospital," Jayden lied, and even he could tell he wasn't very convincing.
"Oh, what did you have?" JJ asked slyly, and Jayden just stared at her, trying to think of something breakfasty, but all he had in his head was popcorn for some unknown reason.
