"Mmmm," Jayden nodded, and it hurt. He half wanted Jesse to be by his side the entire time, and half wanted his brother to leave him alone. He didn't even know why he would ever want that, considering how long they had spent apart.
He heard sirens approaching and then there were voices and footsteps and Jayden went limp, letting the EMTs do whatever they needed to do.
He felt himself loaded onto a stretcher and he glanced sideways at his brother. "I'll be fine, Jesse. Just- Just go to work, okay?"
An EMT leaned closed to Jesse, letting his brother know Jayden's injury was actually quite serious, and Jayden frowned. Why couldn't they all just leave him alone?
