Who: Roxanna Fielding, David Richardson, Jayden Delacroix, Jamie Kemp, Hermes, Julia Bathory (I think that's everyone, tell me if not, Lara!)
What: Musical/dance exhibition, and afterward
When: Monday night
Where: Some performing arts center
Roxanna had spent the time before going onstage pacing back and forth, fidgeting and wringing her hands. Once she stepped out on stage, there would be no starting over and taking it from the top, they were going to have to sink or swim.
When the music students were introduced, she stepped out onstage with everyone else, and took her customary seat behind her trap set. And once she picked up her sticks, everything else just melted away, and the music was the only thing that mattered. It seemed like no time at all later that she was standing to take her bow, and then heading offstage. Her knees felt rubbery, and the pent-up adrenaline was going to need an outlet eventually, but right now, she felt like she'd won something.
David, conversely, knew that he'd practiced everything to the point where he could probably do it in his sleep. The students moved as a seamless unit, and they were here tonight to put those skills on display. He knew his muscles would probably be aching tomorrow, but his excitement kept his energy up and kept the pain at bay, and he'd take it.
When all of the performers came back onstage for one final bow, they were greeted by a thunderous standing ovation. Roxanna couldn't stop grinning, as she swept her hair out of her face and took her bows before the curtain finally closed.
Backstage was utter chaos, as everyone ran around collecting their personal belongings, changing into street clothes, and just generally getting ready to leave. Roxanna had to ask a few people before she found David, but she did eventually, pulling him into a hug and spinning them both around. "Dude, you guys were amazing!" she told him. "How do you not fall over all the time?"
"Luck?" he said, grinning brightly. "What about you, wailing away back there? Very classic-punk-rock."
Roxanna laughed. "I don't know about that," she said. "But hey, come on, I think my friends are here, you can meet them if you want."
The pair of them headed out into the lobby, where people were milling around and waiting for the performers to emerge. Roxanna scanned the crowd, looking for Jamie or her sister, finally spotting Jamie's dark hair above the crowd. "Jamie!" she called, waving to get his attention. "Guys, over here!"
