Where: Delacroix house/cemetery/on the road again
Say what you want about Richard Delacroix (and Jesse had a tendency to go on, at length), the man knew how to plan ahead. When Jesse had gotten to the funeral home, he discovered that not only had his father picked out everything he'd wanted, but he'd paid for it, too. So all Jesse had had to do was pick a date.
He'd put the word out among the parishioners at the church, and the whole affair was pretty well-attended. Jesse had stood in the back, leaning against a doorframe as the service went on. He'd elected not to go to the internment, instead going back home and curling up on the couch. Adrian and Isaiah came from the cemetery, and all of them sat up late into the night, discussing who wanted what, and what they were going to do with the house. Truthfully, no one wanted to live there, or pay for its upkeep, so they agreed to list it and split whatever profit they got four ways. All of them took their personal belongings, and Jesse packed away the family portrait and his mother's cross. He'd take them back to New York when they left. Everything else was either carted off to Goodwill, thrown away, or given to some members of the church who wanted or needed it.
Finally, all of it was done. The house stood clean and empty, ready for potential buyers to come and look at it. Jesse stood in the now bare living room, taking one final look around. "I still feel like I'm forgetting something," he remarked, tapping his chin. "Even though we've gone through the house twice."
