Jessie's laugh was soft and self-effacing. "No, noooo, nothing intimidating about me!" Pretty Jessie knew she was, but smart she wasn't so sure about even if he said she was. (But that would be because Hati didn't know all the dumb things she'd done, and the ways she'd let the world break her. Maybe some day he'd know those things, but that was for the future.)
