WHO: Charity & Lucifer
WHEN: Friday night
WHERE: Lucifer's apartment
WHAT: Dinner with the weirdest BFFs
WARNINGS: tba
Charity couldn't be sure what it was that had made Lucifer's day good for him, but she had certain ideas about it and each and every one of them made her sad. So many times Lucifer had made her weep for the losses of good souls, but rarely had she wept openly in front of him. She saved those tears for when she was with those who would share the pain, not enjoy it.
Anyone else who was so hurt by someone would stay away, but Charity was not anyone else. She would go to any agent of Hell that asked her to and she would always love them without end, no matter what they did - either to her or to anyone else.
So when Lucifer invited her to dinner and asked her to bring wine, of course Charity assented. She didn't know if the wine she bought was good as she didn't really see the interest in drinking herself. But Lucifer had asked.
She made her way to his apartment and knocked, wine in the paper bag in her hand.
Given he'd gotten the chance to annoy Pestilence and extend bait over Bloody Mary, he'd had an alright day. The Virgin had offered him cookies in return for not burning things on Christmas and he'd uphold the deal. Despite the lack of bloodshed he'd had his laughs.
So when Charity knocked on the door he opened it and let her in. "Hello precious." He didn't even ask, and just took the wine. He'd had some of his minions cook up something suitable to a Virtue's palette so it was plain fare.
"So glad you could make it. Don't worry, it's just pasta."

"That sounds wonderful," Charity said with a smile, entering the apartment, hands folded before herself. "I'm glad you're in a good mood."

"I had the most excellent of days." grinning he slid his arm around her waist and led her into the dining room. "And without blood too. Miracles do still happen." He led her to the table and pulled out her seat, handing the bottle to a nearby minion. "How was your day precious?"

Charity was pleasantly surprised to hear that no one had died and her expression probably said as much. She sat and gave the minion a friendly smile before turning her attention back to Lucifer. "My own day was quite pleasant as well. I've spent it in conversation with the Lord above."

He gave a sound that said exactly how he felt about that and sat down in front of her. "That's a lovely one sided conversation. You have more luck talking to a rock. Really Charity you need more hobbies. Even I have some."

"One sided? Never that," Charity assured him. She had never ceased hearing the voice of God. (Although whether it was truly God or simply belief-fueled schizophrenia, who could be sure?) "I have hobbies though, when I have the time. I don't feel many of our interests overlap, however," Charity told the Morningstar, smiling sweetly.

He raised an eyebrow at her, "Dearest God isn't talking to any of us. Ask Mikey." He shook his head but let it be. There was no point in arguing about this. It was a dead horse. "I'm not saying they should dearest, just talking to yourself shouldn't be one of them."

"I suppose we shall have to agree to disagree," Charity said to him, but she still sounded bright and cheerful. "I do plenty of work with the local churches, and I spend time with the homeless and the needy. I do have plenty of things on my plate that I enjoy," she promised him and then placed her hand on his across the table. "But it's very sweet of you to be concerned."

Such a gentlemanly gesture from the fallen angel and Charity's smile was touched. Despite who he was, she always felt that one day he would be redeemed. When the end of days came, Charity truly believed that all of Hell would find their way back to the Kingdom and seek forgiveness. Forgiveness which the Lord would give. All would be well in the end.
"I shall tell not a soul," Charity promised him. "Now, aren't you going to drink you wine? I must admit I don't know if it's a good one."

With a grin he took the wine and sipped from it. It wasn't great but it would do. "It's decent enough. I don't think you can buy the wine I'm most fond of." He doubted she'd want to know, and he hardly ever bothered to make the Virtue feel uneasy around him.

Charity didn't need him to explain any further than that, because as much as she liked Lucifer and wanted to see him happy, she wasn't going to bring him the blood of the innocent. The interests and needs of humanity stood above Lucifer for Charity.
"I'm glad that it will serve," Charity said, digging her fork into the pasta that had been brought. After chewing a mouthful she smiled at him. "This is wonderful. Thank you very much for inviting me over."

He shrugged, "think nothing of it. I could do with company and Satan's off whoring with his wives, probably. And if it hadn't been decent I would have had my cooks for dinner." Not something terribly out of the ordinary for him.
The food was decent, even if he preferred something that was still screaming.
"Well," Charity said diplomatically, "I do rather prefer pasta to eating servants." Even if they were hellfire creatures she felt affection and sympathy for them. "Tell me, how are Satan and his wives? Well, I hope?"

"Yes," he watched her and set his arms on the table. "A very tiring game, with a very spoiled child making the rules. One who thinks we are ants, and Him with the magnifying glass." His disdain was easily heard. He'd say the same old thing until time ended. "and while Father's gotten bored of the game I just want to end it. Wash it all away."

"A very gloomy way of thinking," Charity considered out loud, sounding sad. All she wanted was for all of them to be happy and to find the light of God, but it was so difficult sometimes. "And if this was your game and not His, how would you choose to play it?"

With a shrug he leaned back in the seat. "The only way that's left to me Charity. All I have is ashes and blood." He tilted his head. "Let the End come. Humanity is not worth the trouble we all go through. The sinners win, and the blessed lose. Let judgement come and begin anew. This world should not be ruled by an absentee child. As far as I care, let the pagans take it back. All I really want is to go home."

He sneered and for a moment the fires of Hell burned in his eyes. He withdrew his hand and rose. "You would like to think so. Even if I could, I will not bow down now when I at first refused. MY point is made every day by these clay puppets. I will not, ever, serve them. They are not even fit to lick my boots in Hell." He glanced to her, "no I will not return home on knees and plead to deaf ears that I may be forgiven. I will return home a conqueror and take the place I was meant to have."

Charity sighed, dejected, at the failure she should have seen coming. But she was ever-hopeful and couldn't help that. No matter how many times anyone slapped her down, she would always return and try again. That was how He had made her.
She lifted her fork again and moved some of the pasta around on her plate. Lucifer would not change, no matter how she hoped for it. There was nothing for Charity to say to his words, so blasphemous and filled with hate.

He would care about her feelings had he still something left in his soul. But most of it was burned to a crisp and he filled it with violence and death.
He sighed after a while and looked back at her. "We will have this conversation until Judgement Charity. I pleaded my case and was rejected." He shrugged. "Let's not talk of such things today. It's such a nice day."

"I agree," Charity said, ignoring for now the tears that misted at her eyes as she blinked them away. The time to mourn once more for the most beautiful angel of Heaven was not now.
But now her mind was on him and although she wanted to move onto something different for a conversation, Charity could think of nothing. "I want only happiness for you," she said quietly, quiet enough that he could choose to ignore it if he pleased.

He didn't even know the meaning of happiness anymore. He didn't even know if he had ever really known it. He'd never been like the others. He had no idea how to respond to that and insults felt too heavy right now.
So he just set his fingers on her shoulder before taking his seat again.

Charity speared a piece of pasta and chewed on it slowly and thoughtfully. She wished so much that the Lord would reach His hand down and repair all of this damage. Lucifer was so broken, so unhappy with his place. Yes he still refused to see wisdom in begging forgiveness. He could have been happy with her in Heaven, despite what he said.
"I shouldn't have brought such thoughts to the table, I'm sorry," she said to him with a shake of her head. "Please, drink more wine, let us talk only of good things from now on. What can I do to please you tonight, Lucifer?"

"I have very little interest in intercourse," she assured him. "I was never created with such things in mind."
She smiled at his (possibly?) compliment and asked, "and why am I your favourite? Is it simply that I grate on your nerves slightly less?" she was not unaware of the annoyances her kind provided for his kind.
"Neither were Angels but my brother seems adamant about it." He shrugged. The very idea of Michael having a sex life seemed odd to him, but a source of amusement either way.
"A little yes. Virtues make my skin itch. To many sins you know." He grinned. "Heaven and Hell clash, it's the way of things. You clash less. Thus you are my favorite."

"I can't speak for Michael," Charity said, although to her the idea was strange as well. The Saints all seemed very interested in the activity, but she hadn't expected an angel to find that same interest.
"Well, I take that as a high honour then," Charity told him, her smile bright and open now. Their talk of earlier already was far from her mind and she was back to her usual state of happiness.
He shrugged, "it makes him less likely to hang over my shoulder like a mother so I can't really say I care. I have a bet though he'll fuck it up. It'd be funny to see the aftermath of that one."
