WHO: Greed and Zoe
WHEN: [Backdated] November 7th
WHERE: outside some big advertising agency/toy store
WHAT: Greed has s job interview!
WARNING: cuteness
They'd been skyping for almost a week when Greed asked her to see him in person. Zoe had immediately declined, she didn't think it was a good idea. But he persisted because it was what Greed did and eventually they worked it out to this: He had an interview in a building that was just a few blocks away from the toy store, so Zoe could just see him on her lunch break just for a few minutes before his interview for luck. And she could tie his tie in that knot he liked that she did. It wasn't a meal, it wasn't going to be long, so she agreed even if she was hesitant about it.. but if she was going to start to trust him again, she had to see him at some point. There were lots of people, it was in public, a crowded building, they wouldn't be alone, it was daytime, it would be fine. She entered the building at the address he gave her wearing a gray dress that fitted her curves nicely. Her candy floss hair hung loose and open and it was clear to anybody that she was nervous. She hadn't seen Greed without some sort of barrier between them in over three weeks. But she had to admit she was excited... she wanted to see him. She missed him. She just didn't know how to be around him anymore.

It had been progress no matter how small. Even in his fancy suit and gold and black shoes he had butterflies in his stomach. He hadn't seen her of his own choosing without some kind of barrier. He wanted to run up and jump her but that would wrinkle his suit, he'd been cautious even when he saw her from a distance. He took off his fancy shades, folded them up into his pocket. His hands felt like they were stuck to his sides, sweaty and nervous. He rubbed the lapels of his jacket down smooth until he was within breathing distance. "Hi," was all he squeaked out. This was such a new feeling he wasn't sure how to contain it, but his heart was bouncing around in his ribcage on auto pilot. It wouldn't stop at this high speed. The checkered tie she had picked was hanging around his neck ready to assemble.

Her own heart started to race when she spotted him and she had to force herself to stay calm and walk over at a natural pace. It was ridiculous, they'd known each other for well over a year but it felt like it was a first date or something with how they were acting. She seemed almost shy and dipped her head when she was right in front of him, "Hi..." she replied and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. They'd just talked on skype the night before but somehow being in person was just awkward.
_________________________
"You look so tall," he said while standing up straight, his chin out trying not to look into her big brown eyes. They would haunt him all day. He was fishing for a compliment himself, even without his look being complete. "How long do you have?" He'd wanted her to come with him but she wouldn't agree to that
_________________________
She smiled at the odd compliment, "So do you.." but he was tall, "And very sharply dressed." since she knew he wanted his ego boosted for his interview. But it was true, he was handsome as hell in his suit even if she thought he was just as cute in jeans and a t-shirt. "About ten minutes..." she said carefully. She had a little more time than that but she didn't know if she could handle staying. She changed the subject and threaded her fingers together, "So... if you get the job, you'd be working here..? It's a big building.." and it was pretty close to where she worked.
_________________________
He looked up at the skyscraper. "Look it's as tall as you're new roommate." He made a joke but he was still nervous. He flapped the ends of his tie at her as if he were waving his hands. It was his subtle way of saying she could get started when she wanted. "I want this job..." It was the first one he'd been offered that appealed to him. Not for the starting position he'd be given, but where he could be promoted and quickly. He was likeable.
_________________________
She just made a haha face when he took a shot at Jonah. She took the ends of his tie and gently tugged on them, "I know it's not your important job in a fancy office but if you show them how hard you're willing to work and how smart you are, they will hire you." she started to loop the tie and weave it to form the knot that only she did, "They'd be crazy not to."
_________________________
"The pay it's pretty good for a secretarial position." He wasn't afraid to hide that. In a few weeks time he could boost himself up and take a higher position and keep escalating up to the top. He watched her knot and slide the pieces through so easily. Her fingers sometimes grazing his neck as she worked her magic. It was the tiniest touch, but it was still a touch that he could hang on to. "I haven't been inside there before but the website is pretty snazzy too..." He paused letting himself slip to look into her eyes. "You think I'm smart?" She had said it before, he knew it without question, butt he needed the boost.
_________________________
"It looks like it's swanky." she peeked over at the building and then went back to finishing tying his knot. She paused and looked right in his baby blues as she pulled the knot tight but comfortable. "You don't make the best decisions at times.." hurting your gf and cheating on her were not his best moves of late, "But you're intelligent. Definitely one sharp cookie." she smoothed down the tie without thinking about it.

Was he allowed to touch her at all? A brush on her face? A kiss on the cheek? He searched her eyes for some sort of answer but he wasn't sure she was going to give him one. He hated this insecurity and her distrust. He the jacket down a bit. He looked slender, slick, confident, in charge. Now the ensemble was complete. She had made him complete.
_________________________
She looked at him wondering the same thing. She missed him. She hated that she felt awkward around him and always now second guessing herself and him. He had worked so hard to build up her trust and confidence in him.. in them. And it had been so easy to wreck it all. She wanted to hug him but he was wearing his suit and she knew he hated wrinkles so instead she tugged lightly on his lapel, "You're gonna do great."
_________________________
It wasn't fair bit he had done it. He couldn't put blame anywhere but on his shoulders. He had come in with a wrecking ball and smashed them to pieces. Not Satan, not Lust, not Poseidon. Him. He didn't hesitate, but he was slow as he leaned down to put a light kiss on her cheek. Greed had never cared about being too forward before, he wasn't going to now, even in his mistakes.
_________________________
He had gotten her used to so much PDA that she never did in the past. Cuddling, hand holding, smooching in front of people.. but when he leaned down to kiss her cheek she leaned away a little as a gut reaction as if she was unsure of what he was doing. When he still kissed her cheek, her lashes lowered since it was the first time he'd touched her since the rave... and the last time he'd touched her had been in malice. This was very soft and gentle.. she tucked another strand of hair behind her ear. All she could think of was how any other girl in her situation would be ramming her tongue down his throat for good luck and she was skittish about him kissing her cheek. Everything was so messed up. She tried to act like none of it was happening and waved her hands in front of her to talk animatedly and also put distance between them. He hadn't said anything in forever so she rambled, "It really is a great building, I mean the architecture alone is stunning... and I bet there are tons of companies in there." she leaned her head back to look up at the building so she didn't have to look at him, "You could probably even ask around and see if anyone else is hiring if you don't get it but you'll probably get it, because well.. you will. You got it all." she took a step back mentally kicking herself to stop, "Uh... well... I guess I should be going." she jokingly said, "I'd hug you but you'd wrinkle so..." she could give him a handshake for good luck.
_________________________
Before his lips could even touch her she was visibly trying to back up. He may have succeeded but there was still a long way to go. He wanted that hug, but he wasn't going to get it, if just for vanitys sake. He didn't know what to do though. She was jabbering in circles without making much sense. "I'll get it." He promised that.
_________________________
She took a breath and calmed down, it was almost over. She gave him a smile, "I know." she took another couple of steps back, "Good luck. Lemme know how it goes." it was time for both of them to go.
_________________________
He reached out for her hand but she was already at a distance that touching was not an option. He took a few steps back putting his shades back on and walked inside like he already owned the place. He'd give her room to calm down because she looked terrified as if he was going to crush her into dust. He hated that she looked at him in that way.
It was a little over an hour interview, their questions were more specific and they wanted long answers. He kept himself collected, in control. He'd lead them salivating for more, which they came all but begging at his feet for the position. And then they'd said they'd get back to him in a few days. A few days? Apparently all those other losers in the lobby were going to be interviewed. He was taken aback because the universe was determined to make him wait for everything and he was still the most impatient person on the planet.
He thanked and gave the interviewees a steady handshake and stepped back out. He knew Zoe wouldn't be there waiting but he'd hoped. As he stated to himself earlier those brown eyes would haunt him all day. So when he walked by the toy store, he wasn't about to pass up going inside...this time not for the toys. He asked up front if they could tell him where she was. He wasn't leaving till he'd seen her. It didn't matter that they'd probably chat online again tonight. This was Zoe in the flesh. That he couldn't pass up. Who knew when she'd agree to this again.
_________________________
The guy that Greed asked pointed to the far corner of the toy store in the front where Zoe was standing in one of the window displays surrounded by teddy bears and ribbons and other decorations that looked like big stars. She was mellow and calm working on her own there, thinking of Greed and hoping his interview had gone okay... wondering if she'd see him online tonight.. thinking over and over again about the simple kiss on the cheek and how much she wanted to curl up into his arms and how much she wanted to run away.
_________________________
"Do you come with the bear?" Greed picked up one of the smaller teddy's squashing it in the back so it's arms moved while he talked. He didn't want to startle her, but he missed just glomping her without a second thought. He looked at the cute little bear, flattening the tiny yellow bow on his neck. "I have to wait a few days before I get answer, but I have that job."
_________________________
She turned around surprised at his voice but she slowly smiled when she saw him standing there with the stuffed animal, "Yes, but we're a bit out of your price range." she nodded and stood there looking down at him since the window platform was elevated making her taller him, "I'm sure you got it, they just have to go through the formalities."
_________________________
"Are you?" He looked at the price tag of the bear. "I think I can manage. I do need some assistance, think you could help me out?" He offered a hand so she could come down the ladder without falling.
_________________________
She looked at his hand as if she was debating taking it and then looked in his eyes as she slowly slipped her small hand into his, it was more contact than they'd had earlier even. It was such an innocent gesture but because it was him, it meant so much more. "What do you need help with?"
_________________________
"I'm trying to figure out what to buy my girlfriend for her birthday, got any ideas?" He hadn't forgotten, and even if she still wouldn't call him her boyfriend, she was still his girl. While she chewed on that for a while, he kept her hand, and tugged her close. His arms quickly but softly enveloped her, reminding her that he still had a soft embrace. He wouldn't crush her into fine dust, because if he did this whole thing was really over and there was nothing he could do to get her back. He loved zombies, but Zoe was a much better human than the dead.
_________________________
Her mouth formed a round 'o' when he said that and she blushed because it was such a charming line, "Smooth..." but she purposely didn't say anything else to it, he'd forget it like he forget most things she was sure. She tensed when he pulled her in close. Before her natural reaction had been to melt into him and nuzzle him but her body was rigid, remembering the last time those muscular arms had gone around her, they'd tried to crush her and there was no love on his face. She squirmed, "Chance... I don't want someone to complain to my boss." about the PDA even though he'd kissed her and held her many times all over the store.
_________________________
To feel her so tense against him, that was a hit to the ego. A big one. But he held on, not bone crushing. She could still get out, his arms were loose enough for that, he just wanted to show her they weren't there to hurt her. They were there to remind her he could be soft. He could be gentle. Even the Sin.
_________________________
She sighed a little frustrated because she didn't want him to be sweet and smell wonderful and look handsome and be gentle. She hated that she still wondered if it was a trick to get her to lower her defenses. She stilled in his arms for a moment, just a moment of weakness to allow herself that familiarity and then shook her head, rolling her shoulders to gently reject him as she wiped her eye with her hand. She was going to lose it if she stayed in his embrace any longer.
_________________________
She kept kicking him when he made a few steps forward. He was getting sent to jail instead of collecting $200 on the game board. He was sitting on the side having to rethink his strategy. He loosened his arms until they just dropped from around her as he picked up the little teddy he'd dropped to hold her. He poked at the ribbon on its neck as he took a step back. He was upset clearly, but not for the reason she may have thought. All he could think about was the way she reacted around Mike. The way she had expressed disgust in how he'd handled her. Here Greed had stepped up and took his stand on the podium. "You're repelled by me..." He flattened the little bear's bow with his middle and forefinger.
_________________________
She shook her head, he didn't get it. She rubbed her arms as if she was cold but was really far from it. "I feel like you're just going to kick me again. So no, I'm not repelled. I'm scared and confused and hurt and I don't know if I can survive being crushed again by you. My body or my heart." it was as honest as she was going to get. She didn't want to start trusting him again and being with him only for him to squash her again then she'd be stupid for going back. She wished she was repelled, she wished she didn't want him as much as she did.
_________________________
It didn't reassure him. He took another step back to prove he could give her space, he just wasn't comfortable with it. He squeezed the arms of the bear softly, it's stuffing forming to his hand and expanding back out when he let it go. "I'll let you get back to work..." He wanted to stay and would to walk around the store, but he'd have to wait for their camera chat tonight. Maybe then he could make up the steps she'd just shoved him back. He wanted her, butt he was being forced to learn patience to get there. If he used his anger again he would lose.
_________________________
She didn't look at him just nodded but as she walked past him, her hand brushed against his and she gave it a quick squeeze before letting it go and going back to the window where she'd been working.
________________________
He watched her for a minute, hugging the bear to his chest. "Eventually we'll have to do this again. Or you're always going to be stiff around me." He stepped backagain, walking backwards until he was out of view. He walked around the store with the bear glued to his chest until he made it to the register. He paid for the bear, writing a message on the back of the company business card stacked beside him on the counter. When he was done he asked the kid at the register to call Zoe up there. He stuffed the card under its ribbon and left it there. On the card was Greed's scribbling that said, "until you're ready squeeze him. His name is Chance."
_________________________
She looked at him over her shoulder but didn't say anything, those doe eyes of her just watching before she turned around and got back to work. She knew he was right but she didn't want to think about it.. she didn't look at him even once as he walked around and only went up to the front register when she was paged. The guy there handed her the bear and she frowned and shook her head but the guy pointed at the door to indicate Greed who had just left had paid for it. Zoe was bewildered as she took the bear and walked a couple of steps away from the counter when she noticed the card. She smiled in a way that Greed hadn't seen in weeks and she hugged the bear tight to her chest, her chin resting on top of its fuzzy head as she read the card a few more times while walking back to where she'd been working.
_________________________
Greed watched her take the bear, only then would he walk away. When he was home he waited the rest of the day for her to sign on. It was dark and cold, but he was in his boxers wrapped in a sheet. He'd also left the checkered tie on not able to make himself take it off. He wanted to keep it on in his sleep.
_________________________
It was dark by the time she got home and up the stairs. She signed on to her laptop and two seconds later she saw Greed's screen name wanting to chat. She set her bag and bear down on the bed in view of the camera and then blinked when she saw him, it was hard to tell but... "Please tell me you're not naked..." was what she said instead of hello.
_________________________
Greed peeked down his sheet. "Am I naked?" He looked back up as he flashed her. "Still covered." He was sitting in Captain America boxers. His favorite pair. He left the sheet open as he adjusted his laptop, but quickly wrapped back up. He'd was glad to be inside freezing than outside freezing.
_________________________
She covered her eyes with her hands when he removed the sheet in case he was, she never knew with him. When he announced he was still covered, She peeked at him between her fingers with one eye and when she saw he was telling the truth, she dropped her hands. "Can I ask why you're in just your undies if you're cold. And trust me, I can tell you're cold..." she looked to the side without moving her head since his nipples had been pretty erect and he looked cold.
_________________________
"Because the sheets feel like skin..." He rubbed it against his cheek. He's flopped back making snow angels in his bed only to roll back up in his cocoon with the sheet a hood over his head. "They're silk." So was the tire around his neck which made his whole bed ensemble look strange.
_________________________
She covered her mouth as a laugh threatened to escape while he rolled around in the sheets, he really was a little boy sometimes. "I can guarantee you my skin does not feel like that." she kicked off her heels and stretched her arms above her head, "Don't you have central heating in that fancy apartment of yours?" she eyed the tie curiously.
_________________________
"Your skin is pretty soft though..." He rolled around some more until his sheets were a wrinkled mess. He stuck his nose up to the screen, those pretty blue eyes boring a hole into her. "Did you get my little friend?" He knew she had, but he wanted to hear it from her.
_________________________
She just smiled and looked away when he complimented her but then gave him a look when he brought up the bear that was still in sight on her bed. She moved her eyes right up to the camera too and asked innocently, "What little friend?" she knew he knew she got it but if he wanted to play...
_________________________
"My furry little friend," he squished his nose to the screen so now all she saw was a the tip of his big honker and his fat lips. "That bear you have in your bed," He growled chomping his truth and backing up from the computer so he could see her face blush bright pink. If she let it show or if she would try and hide it.
_________________________
She was sure he was holding back a quip of how he wanted to be a bear in her bed and she moved her face back too and bugged her eyes out at him, "If you can see him then obviously you know I got him." but she smiled a little, "Thank you, he's very sweet." she moved the laptop to the side and he'd hear the zipper of her dress being undone, "Why're you still wearing your tie by the way?"
_________________________
"I wanna see you hug him. Maybe then I can feel it." He bundled himself tight in the sheet so she could see his muscles outlined underneath. "What tie?" He looked down his sheet and his eyes went wide. "Oh that tie. I didn't want to take it off. You made it so pretty."
_________________________
She frowned as she changed into her jammies, "I've tied that knot before.." loads of times she'd done it before he went to work. She moved the laptop to the bed and climbed ontop of the mattress, grabbing the bear and putting him in her lap with her arms around him, cuddling it.
_________________________
"I wanted this one to last longer." It wasn't food that was going to be devoured, but she had done it for him, he would keep it on as many days as he felt like. "You made it for me. I got to be close to you because of it."
_________________________
She rested her chin on top of the bear's fuzzy head and his words made her sad but were touching. It was just a tie.. but it meant something to him because she did it. "...I can tie it again, you know..." she said softly.
_________________________
Greed mimicked her bear with his pillow, cuddling it to his chest with his chin on its fat fluffy top. "You will?" His fat blue eyes looking at her like a retriever puppy. "When?" Coming over, let alone inside still didn't seem like an option.
_________________________
She rubbed her lips together, "Mmmm..." she didn't know when to see him again, "How about if you-- when you get the job.. I can tie it on your first day?" that would be short again, just tying his tie and in he went, that would be easy..
_________________________
"Only if we get lunch." He wasn't going to let her slip by with that one. He didn't want to blink and the moment be over. He was going to make this one may as long as he threaded in his own deal. She had been making a lot of them lately, he just wanted one.
_________________________
She twisted her lips to the side in thought, snuggling into the fur of the bear, looking down. She did want to see him but she was feeling anxious about the thought of being with him for an extended period of time.. it was overwhelming. "Okay..." she finally agreed, "But just on my lunch break." which meant he'd get about 40 minutes with her and she had an excuse to run away then.
_________________________
"Just lunch." He made a flattening motion with his hand. A lunch was a foot in the door, one less hanging out than he had before. I've step closer to not feeling as if she were so far away. She really did need to get used to being around him or she wasn't going to ever be okay with him.
