Maria smiled at him from her position by the stove. "I'm glad to hear it," she told him. "Nice to know my daughter isn't telling people how terrible I am."
"Come on, Mum, you know I'd never do that," Piper said. "For a lot of reasons, not least of which is that I'm still not convinced you have superpowers and can hear me over in America."
"I'll never tell," Maria said mysteriously.
"She always wanted a girl," Piper added, laughing. "So when Mum needed someone to watch me, I'd almost always go round to her house. Worked out really well for everyone."
