Charles felt like his grip on Piper's hand was his only lifeline as they walked through the iron cemetery gates. If she let go of him, he didn't know what he would do.
The grave he was searching for was near the middle of the cemetery, and Charles felt very strange to be passing by the resting place of so many people. His own body- his real body- was in the ground in Surrey. It was all just a little bit strange to be walking in a place that felt so final when he knew it wasn't always so.
For the man who had preyed on him, however, he very much hoped it was. As they approached the marker, Charles pointed it out. "There it is." The gravestone made him laugh once, but there was no mirth in it. It read Beloved Husband and Teacher.
