WHO: Briseis & Achilles
WHEN: Saturday afternoon
WHERE: His apartment
WHAT: Catching up, possibly with Terrible Life Choices
WARNINGS:
It must have been nearly a month since Briseis had managed to catch up with Achilles. She didn't like having that sort of time between them now that they'd found each other in the world again. Being around Achilles brought both stability and instability to Briseis, but mostly it was the former. She felt at peace with him, even if there was a constant thread that ran beneath the surfaces of their interactions.
What they'd once had would always be there, no matter how many lifetimes they lived. But Achilles wasn't good for her now, not in a romantic sense. As one of the closest souls to her on earth he was everything, but Achilles wasn't boyfriend material for Briseis. Besides, happily he'd found someone else for him.
(She could say happily now, but that hadn't been the case when she'd first found out. There had been, she would now admit, a small amount of jealousy when she'd heard about Polyxena, but that was only the tiniest part of her problem with the situation. Achilles had taken up with the young woman he'd once demanded be murdered to appease his ghost. How, she had demanded of Achilles, was that in any way acceptable? How could that be a relationship based on anything but violence and abuse and cruelty. Briseis had been so angry at him that day, so angry that he had found Polyxena and taken from her a second life.
But things were not static, even for people like them. Things changed and shifted and connections were born and broken.
It was only Polyxena herself that had finally been able to stem Briseis' rage. It was only Polyxena's words that Briseis could finally accept: the two loved each other. Their connection in blood and war had given them a sense of peace in this age. Of course Briseis had still been wary, but seeing them together it was clear they were happy and Briseis was eventually glad for them.
She wondered if it hurt Patroclus to see Achilles so happy with her. She wondered if her own tiny stabs of jealousy would eventually subside.)
When he opened the door of his apartment, Briseis held up the bag in her hand and said, "I forgot to ask if you'd eaten already, but I got Chinese for us."
