Who: Jared Price and Deirdre
What: I'm here about a job...
When: Tuesday afternoon
Where: Deirdre's bakery
Warnings: TBD
The last job he'd held down he'd been a stock boy at the grocery store. It was the longest job he'd had since college, which was three years. There was nothing much to show for it. He'd stayed in the same position since day one, his pay only ever increasing by about ten to fifteen cents a year until he'd lost interest and didn't care much anymore. Jared's drive for anything had died when his parents had failed to ever push him as far as he could go. In his mind he was just only capable of doing what was required to squeak by. The facts were he had to make a living, he needed somewhere to stay and he needed money to do that. He wasn't about to crawl back home begging his parents for handouts because they wouldn't give it even if he was desperate. It was hard to show motivation when no one cared one way or the other, including himself.
He'd spent weeks at his sister's apartment. This was the first lead for a job that wasn't some old high school victim of his. He'd been a bully. Working under some kid that he'd given swirlies to in the school bathroom was a last ditch effort if this didn't pan out. He couldn't say he was all that excited. What could he do in a bakery? He only microwaved his food at best, he wasn't sure what he could learn. He still showed about a week later guessing that she'd already filled the position. He'd dressed in the best he had in his closet, which was still jeans and a t-shirt, but at least he'd had a nice jacket. She wasn't going to hire him on his appearance, and if Deirdre turned him away after just one glance then this was over quick enough. He hated the waiting anyway. His nerves weren't built on waiting for a possibility. That would mean he'd have to actually have hope, and he didn't.
Jared walked inside, the green hat still on his head, hair a little shaggy. He'd at least shaved. He looked around for the owner. He didn't see anyone right away which made him debate on turning around and walking back out. This was a bad idea wasn't it?
