She was stunned. Completely stunned. She had never thought he would hit her. He had gotten angry yes, but that was a deal breaker. She cupped her cheek with her hand, tears welled up. By the time she had ran into the bedroom to pack what little she had brought with her, streams stained her cheeks. She had been foolish to think he cared for her, loved her even. He loved the idea of someone on his mantle, he didn't love her. She had been living in a fantasy all this time, turning a complete blind eye to the man he'd turned into.
She was scared though. She had nowhere to go now. Her family had disowned her. Once her suitcase was full she left all the clothes, trinkets and anything John had bought her to keep her comfortable. She couldn't even look at him now as she picked up the cat and headed towards the front door. Saying goodbye seemed almost too much because her words were stuck in her throat, packed down tightly.
