WHO: Lena and Jamie
WHAT: Bonding and sadness
WHEN: Wednesdayish
WHERE: Kemps
Lena had been at the airport, waiting for Thomas and Jamie to arrive when Thomas had gone into his seizure. She had sat and worried while the crowd coming through customs dwindled from a sea of people, to a trickle. And then there was no one and Lena's heart had leapt into her throat.
Emma had called. They were at the hospital and Thomas was sick.
It was all a little too much for Lena, who had never thought of being in a long-term relationship with anyone until six months ago and now she was in love with someone and he was seriously unwell. So she did what anyone in that situation would do. She went down to the unclaimed baggage area and retrieved Jamie and Thomas' things in order to stall heading to the hospital.
Thomas had leant Lena his car while they were off having adventures in Europe and so it was waiting there for them when Jamie and Lena were eventually shuffled out of the waiting room by Emma Kemp. Thomas was in a medically induced coma. He wasn't going to wake up unless they wanted him to. There was nothing they could really do. So she took Jamie home to the apartment she had been looking after for the past three weeks, and she placed Thomas' suitcases on his bed.
It felt strange and empty. She had volunteered to stay with Jamie, but staying in Thomas' room without him seemed wrong. She had her brother bring her some things and she set up shop on the fold-out sofa in the living room and she did what she could to take care of her boyfriend's son.
She paid the bills on the counter so things wouldn't get shut off while Thomas was comatose. She had Florian bring them groceries and she cooked things she was fairly sure neither of them had the appetite for.
She tried and she worried.
Reclined on the sofa bed, she attempted to read, but concentration was not coming easily. With a frustrated yell, she hurled the book against the wall and then threaded her fingers into her hair. This...all of this was not okay.
