"He always did," Serenity nodded and she grinned at Thomas.
"Now I feel a little redeemed after the previous chat about my terrible choices!" Thomas leaned forward and he asked, "what did you do when you left, Serenity?"
"I went looking for my brother. We had grown apart and we hadn't gotten along in several years and I just...wanted to be with him. I didn't tell him where I'd been or about either of you because he would have made me come back and I was too ashamed to do that." Serenity looked upset, and Thomas hated to see it.
"It's okay," he said soothingly. "You're here now."
Taking a deep breath, she nodded. "I am. Tell me about you, Jamie. What do you like, what do you not like? Where are you going to college? Do you have a girlfriend?"
At that, Thomas glanced over at his son. He hadn't even thought about the fact that Jamie would have to tell his mother he was gay. To Thomas it wasn't even all that important, it was just naturally who Jamie was. He really hoped Serenity took it well.
