Alexander would sometimes come to the veteran's hospital, both as part of his job, and to visit the patients. Some never had any visitors, and he'd seen their faces on previous visits, watching others with their families, and it broke his heart a little. He knew it wasn't the same as having their families come, but he did what he could.
The nurse entering the ward caught his eye, as did the immortal presence she projected. He hadn't known there was one working in the hospital. He wrapped up his conversation, leaving the patient he'd been visiting to sleep. He caught the eye of the nurse as he was heading back down the ward, and he nodded and gave her a small smile. Never hurt to be friendly.
