The difference in how Vlad Tepes arrives in New York, is that he's gone with the times. There is no drifting ship with it's crew picked off one by one, and no random wolves escaping the zoo. He arrives by private jet, and during a mild drizzle.
It would be anticlimactic, if he wasn't fairly tired of the cliché of the image his name has invoked so many times. It serves it's purpose now and again, because intimidation is 90% of the battle, but he's not interested in showing off his entrance anymore. He does that in more subtle, yet much more inspiring, ways these days.
Still, it has to be said he's not a city man. He enjoys the solitude of mountains, and his castle had been far removed from everything else. But New York is one of the greatest hubs of activity, and even he sees the potential in that. And he's always been very good at following opportunity, and he's learned from past mistakes.
He's gone from a country to an office, but it's much the same. The people around him don't know who he is, but some whisper that he's called the Dragon, and it sometimes makes him chuckle. He's had to learn to love irony, considering. The only one that knows is another immortal and he knows that one to be loyal, because the agreement they have is perfect for both of them. He still keeps an eye, because he learned loyalty is malleable, and weakness is everywhere.
The house they give him is empty of mirrors, and his people no longer question his oddities. There are still days, however, that he wishes he could find Stoker and correct him on his mistakes. Often violently so. Vlad Tepes is not a man who tolerates such things very well. The house is still the way he likes it though.
He fits himself into the new environment with ease. Vlad is one of those dangerous ones. He knows how to adapt, and after the first week he's figured out how things worked and started to improve them. Thankfully, it only takes three impalement before his forces outside of work understand he is serious, and changes will happen. He turned a country around. A business and a mob isn't really that hard to manage.
After he's settled, he goes to hunt. He despises having the weakness that wishes him to find that one woman, because he knows that never ends well. And he doesn't tolerate failure, even in himself. But he cannot deny himself the hunt, or the need for blood. It's as much a part of him as everything else, and he's learned to mitigate his weaknesses. He avoids any woman that may bring him low, which has worked out perfectly well so far.
He follows the woman and cannot help but wonder exactly when women lost their sensibilities. They either dress like wanton whores, or pretend they are the equal of men. Even after so many years, it still boggles him. But it doesn't mean he's stopped being a good predator. He's always known the perfect way to strike, and more importantly when.
The scream is cut off by a strong hand and it's no effort at all to keep the woman contained as he takes his fill. The blood floods him with a sense of elation and rightness, and the ache of the denied is soothed. He only stops when he feels the woman go slack.
He leaves her to fall on the ground, for she has served her purpose. He doesn't bother to know her name. It's never important.
By the time someone finds Kat, she's lost a bit more blood and has gone into shock. She faints and comes back in the ambulance, when they are giving her blood, only to lose consciousness again.
When she reaches the hospital, they call her parents, sisters, Victor, Jamie and Thomas, and someone called Heath Monroe so they are aware and make sure that the blood that was lost is replenished. They are a bit confused at the bite marks on her neck, but they are treated and bandaged.
Then all they can do is wait.
