"I have to pee," was Little's answer. She stood up and left her brother in the kitchen, going to the bathroom. Sitting on the toilet, with her head in her hands, Little considered the envelope sitting in the other room.
Part of her thought that maybe if she just refused to look at it, then she'd never have to deal with the results.
But she saw her father every day. She knew ignored it wouldn't change it.
When she returned to the kitchen she picked up the envelope and put it into Thomas' hand. "I can't," she told him with a shake of her head.
