Melinoe made her way to Hades' home before dark. If she had waited until afterwards, it was likely she would have a train of ghosts following after her and no one needed that. It would be a lovely reunion without dead people crashing it.
She rang Hades' doorbell and she was grinning before he even answered it. The moment the door opened, Melinoe gave Hades a huge hug, clinging to him happily. Only Hades could make her feel like a giddy little girl.
Hades rarely opened the door himself. His daughters were the exception, because for all intense and purpose Melinoe was as much his as Makaria was. Zeus may have sired her, but he had raised her.
So when she hugged him he smiled and set his hand on her back. "Hello dearest." Smiling he leaned down and kissed the top of her head, "I need to breathe." But he was smiling. Even Cerberus had noticed and had come up to Melinoe, barking happily. The Guardian Hound was rather pleased to see all his people again.
Melinoe leaned down to give Cerberus a kiss and a loving pat. "It's good to see you, Father," she said, since she refused to refer to Zeus her father except in jest. "I am glad to see you."
"As am I, come in. Please." He motioned her into the house before telling one of the shades to tell Makaria her sister was here. "I do hope you'll be staying with us?" While he knew Melinoe could look after herself, he preferred having her close. It was easier keeping an eye on her that way. "Plenty of room here, after all."
"Melinoe!" Makaria said brightly as she came into the room, running over to hug her. "I've missed you."
"I'd love to stay here," Melinoe said with a smile. When her sister ran into the room, her smile widened. "Makaria," she said warmly, wrapping her arms around the girl. Melinoe felt a lot like Hades in that she felt extremely protective of Makaria. "I missed you too," she said, planting a kiss on Makaria's hair.
Then Melinoe turned to her father. While she normally wouldn't question anything Hades did ever, she did feel she had to say something here. "I heard there some drama with mother. Makaria said mother was harsh to her." Melinoe wrapped her arms around her sister.
He liked seeing both his girls happy, in one piece, and in a place where he could look after them and keep all undesirables away. He would not see them harmed. Seeing them re-connect warmed his heart.
But he paused at the comment and looked to Makaria," what? Why didn't you tell me?"
When Melinoe had spoken, Makaria shook her head at her sister quickly. She didn't want this to come up. She looked to her father, hating being caught out here. "I... I didn't want to upset you, papa," she told him quietly.
Melinoe turned back to their father, her arm still around Makaria. "Father, forgive me...you had to know it was changing her? Did she refuse to leave?"
He sighed, "Makaria you should have told me." he stepped closer to her and set his hand on her chin, "you shouldn't have been harmed in this." He gave Melinoe a glance before stepping back. "I didn't want to see it for a while."
He lowered his eyes and set his hands in his pockets, "she didn't want to. I didn't want her to leave. I convinced myself in thinking nothing would change save the fact I could be happy. Every spring I give her up, only to get her back and have to convince her all over again to love me." He ran his fingers through his hair. He'd not admit this to anyone save his daughters. They understood. "Every damn year she thinks I'm the monster again. It burns after a while. I just wanted a bit of happiness."
Makaria watched her father sadly. "I'm sorry, papa. And... I don't think she meant to hurt me. She just... got lost." It was clear that by the end they weren't looking at Persephone anymore.
Melinoe kissed Makaria's hair and then she went to Hades and she leaned up to kiss him on the cheek. "I understand, father. Of course you didn't want to see it. Are you alright now, Makaria? And if someone harms you again will you tell one of us?"
He shrugged and pushed it aside. He had plenty of months to wallow in that. He smiled to the kiss. "It won't happen again Makaria. I promise you that. And I agree with your sister. Tell me if someone hurts you."
"I always would," she promised the both of them, despite the fact that this was all about how she hadn't done just that. "Any everything is okay now."
"Good," Melinoe said simply. Now that was finished with and Melinoe didn't have to deal with emotions, they could move on. "Where should I stay?" Melinoe asked, referring to the room of course, since they had already decided she was going to stay in the house. "It probably shouldn't be too near you two unless you don't mind the ghosts at night.
He motioned to the shades milling about, doing the tasks he'd given them. "Used to those, besides Cerberus tends to keep them out. Stay in whatever room you like Melinoe. Feel free to redecorate it as you please." He liked spoiling his daughters in whatever way he could.
