Emma hugged Jamie and then kissed him on the cheek before answering, "shit. We knew something was going on with William, but we never expected this. He's taking it all in stride, bless him."
That sounded like his father, Thomas had to admit. William never seemed fazed by anything. He remembered when he had to tell his parents he had gotten someone pregnant. His mother had been flustered and upset and William had been calm and understanding.
Thomas pulled out a chair and he sat at the table beside his mother. "And they're absolutely sure, I mean there's no way it could be anything else?" He realised he was just trying to clutch for any hope available and it was likely fruitless.
"They're sure," Emma confirmed. She reached out to smooth her thumb over Jamie's cheek because doting on grandchildren was easier than dealing with a dying spouse. "How are you, Jamie?"
