Zoe gave him an incredulous look but it felt useless to argue it. His sister was ignoring him so suddenly he wanted to see her because he always wanted attention. It made her a consolation prize. Can't be with the one you want so settle for the one you can get. Greed had beat it into her head that Lust came first (even if that wasn't what he'd been trying to say, it was what Zoe had heard), so right now Zoe felt like the toy Greed didn't want but why not, there was nothing else available.
------
He wanted to wring her neck. Really? How ungrateful. These were delicate circumstances.
His phone kept going off. Lust was sniffing him out. When the phone went off a final time. He took it showed it to Zoe and tossed it on the ground.
------
The phone wasn't helping Zoe's nerves. Not even she was this clingy with how often the phone was blowing up. She wanted to just make another excuse but looked totally surprised when Greed showed her it was in fact Lust calling him... and he wasn't going to answer. And he didn't put it in his pocket to secretly text her or anything, the phone was on the ground away from him. Zoe looked at the phone, still not believing it and then looked at Greed.. and slowly smiled. He hadn't been lying, he really did want to see her. He had a choice and she was first. She suddenly stepped forward and put her arms around his neck, it was such a small gesture that he did but it meant the world to her.
--------
There were things he had to explain about how things with him and Lust worked. He was going to catch hell for not picking up. It was a shame there were no twins around for him to use as a decoy later. Lust would understand that faster than if she saw Zoe with her arms hooked around him.
But right now, it was still all about Zoe.
Until Lust found him he had a few more moments to kill. When she found him she would be more irresistible.
He looped his arms around Zoe with a smirk so wide it kicked up the whole left side of his face.
-------
Zoe kept her arms loosely around his neck and leaned back enough to see his face. She grinned and rolled her eyes, "Could you look less like you just won the teddy bear at the carnival by cheating?" She swayed in his arms a little, the music from inside one of those that just wrapped around your body and moved it without you realizing it.
-------
"Not just any teddy bear. The big kahona. The one so big you gotta strap it to the top of the car." It was a shame he couldn't just pocket size her and throw her inside.
He moved with her, swaying with the beat. She had somewhere to be, he had somewhere to be, it was a bad joke that they never got to meet in the middle for very long. He pressed her tight against him, he wanted to keep remembering this because this would always be jerked away, either by himself or the natural order of things.
Eventually the human instincts would drain out, sift through his system like a bad cold. He hoped like that cold he'd program it into his memory for good, like Josie, so he could always keep how it made him feel.
-------
Their entire relationship was this. Stolen moments that they weren't allowed to have. They couldn't be together, she knew that. They'd gone over the why's and everything. They'd reached that conclusion but when he pressed her closer, her arms around him tightened. She didn't want to let him go, she wanted to keep him. But she couldn't. They couldn't be a normal couple, they were just going to always be this. Stuck in a dark alley.
