WHO: Mary Magdalene & Huitzilopochtli WHEN: Monday afternoon (2011-04-25) WHERE: Mary's apartment WHAT: Surprise Huitzilopochtli is surprising.
Mary's weekend had been hard and long and filled with an ache in her heart that would never ever leave her. She wished that it would. She wished that after all these years Easter didn't still drag her down into this dark chasm of despair.
Monday afternoon came around and Mary pulled herself from bed and to the kitchen, but found nothing of real value to eat. She'd need to go out but the world could go fuck itself if it thought she was going to actually get properly dressed.
She pulled on sweats and a pair of slippers. Bread and milk. Corner shop. She wasn't even going to brush her hair.
Mary pushed her wallet into her pocket and then went to unlock the door. What she hadn't expected was to find an Aztec outside her door. "Um," she said. "Hi?"

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-04-25 10:30 am UTC (link) Track This Huitzilopochtli had patience. He didn't get Mary's sadness, but he was there for her. Even if she locked him out and refused to tell him anything. Around Sunday there had been people with pamphlets and he'd spend hours debating how their pamphlet didn't make sense.
Any Heaven that could only shelter a finite number of souls didn't make sense. When they hadn't really argued and just repeated words at him he'd glared at him until they'd left. He could have done worse.
Then on Monday when the door unlocked he looked up at Mary and smiled. "Hello." Calmly he got to his feet looking her over. "Wanted to know if you were alright."

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-04-25 10:33 am UTC (link) Track This Mary looked at him through slightly-blurry eyes from her crying. He wanted to make sure she was alright? It had been a long time since a lover had said that sort of thing to her.
Instead of saying anything about that she asked, with a little confusion, "have you been out here long?"

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-04-25 10:43 am UTC (link) Track This He shrugged, "long enough to keep unwanted people from your door. They have pamphlets that made no sense. They made less sense." He noticed her red eyes but didn't point it out. Instead he offered his hand, "you need anything?"

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-04-25 10:51 am UTC (link) Track This "Jehovah's Witnesses or Mormons?" Mary asked and then shook her head, knowing he was the last person to ask. "Never mind. All the door-knocking Christians are crazy."
Mary didn't take his hand but instead ran her hands over her hair, realizing it was a weekend-worth of bedhead. "There's nothing to eat," Mary told him. "Was going to get some bread or something."

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-04-25 10:55 am UTC (link) Track This He shrugged, "I do not remember. Someone with a Heaven that had a finite number of souls. I restrained myself from speaking of my hobbies." He smirked, just barely, before he lowered his head and hand.
"I'll find you something." He smiled at her and ducked down to set a kiss on her cheek before rising. "Go back if you like. I'll return."

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-04-25 10:59 am UTC (link) Track This "Jehovah's," Mary confirmed with distaste. "They're morons."
"Really?" she asked him, impressed and surprised, but already pulling her wallet out of her pocket to give him some cash. She didn't want to have to go out yet. "There's a place just down the street that sells the basics." She could even use the time he was gone to take a quick shower.

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-04-25 11:09 am UTC (link) Track This He held up his hands at the cash, "no need. I do have money." He smiled to her, remembering what others considered basics. Somehow he doubted this meant chocolate. Pity. He'd have to sneak it in. The holiday was good for that.
"I'll take care of it." With a smile he set off. He imagined people did this for those they loved. And he wanted to get her to smile. And honestly it was cheap chocolate so it was a benefit. He just kept that to himself.
He knew what to get, he was observant and had gone with his warriors on runs, so he soon returned with several bags and knocked on the door. He'd gotten a bit of everything. He was never sure what people liked.

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-04-25 11:13 am UTC (link) Track This When the knock happened Mary had just come out of the bathroom, an indigo towel wrapped around her and another in hand that she was using to dry her hand. She opened the door with her spare hand and gave him a little smile, walking back through to the kitchen. She'd never had him over to her home before, usually going to his crazy sauna of a place instead.
She leaned over the bags when he put them down, "thanks," looking at the bags. "This is a lot of food."

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-04-25 11:19 am UTC (link) Track This He was busy studying her and the apartment as he set the bags down. So he may have had some chocolate.
Maybe.
There was a reason his warriors didn't let him near stores without someone to watch him. Mostly because no one wanted to deal with a hyper sun god. He smiled and shrugged, before remembering her grief. "I didn't know what you liked, or how much of it you would want. I guessed." He looked around, taking the chocolate milk he'd bought and sitting down.
"Do you want me to leave?"

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-04-25 11:21 am UTC (link) Track This Mary sat down at the table as well, reaching in and pulling out a loaf of bread that she could pick at. She couldn't be bothered actually making anything.
When he asked her if she wanted him gone, Mary just shook her head. "But I'm great company right now."

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-04-25 11:27 am UTC (link) Track This He did remember she didn't need him energetic, that this was the worst time to be like this but he'd been around chocolate. And he always feared it would be gone later. It was his weakness. Gently he reached over and pried the bread from her hands, "I'll make you something. I'm capable of fixing a sandwich."
Then he smiled at her, "I always like your company."

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-04-25 11:31 am UTC (link) Track This Mary gave him a small time and that and nodded, laying her arms on the table over each other so she could use her hands like a pillow under her cheek. "Sandwich," she agreed, wet hair leaving damp spots on the table, "and I'll be more human for you."

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-04-25 11:36 am UTC (link) Track This He was happy to fix the sandwich for her, although right now he'd be willing to do anything as sugar was good for that, and pushed it to her. "You may want to dress. You'll catch a cold."

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-04-25 11:38 am UTC (link) Track This "Mmm," Mary agreed but instead took the sandwich and practically inhaled it. She couldn't eat over Easter. Food was all too much. But now her body realised it was starving and she fished around in the bag before finding and apple and biting into it.
"Thanks," she said around her mouthful, leaving the rules of good manners behind for now. "This is really helping."

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-04-25 11:41 am UTC (link) Track This "You are welcome," he was rather surprised how well he could sit still. Knowing she didn't need it helped though. When she needed space he'd just run around for a few and make her neighborhood safer. "There's plenty."

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-04-25 11:53 am UTC (link) Track This "I don't deal with this time of year really well," Mary explained to him once she'd finished the apple, throwing the core across to the sink where she could deal with it later. She didn't feel like saying all that much more than that.

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-04-25 11:59 am UTC (link) Track This "It's fine." He gave her another smile, even though he had not understood and had not considered it fine. But that was then and this was now. "Did you need anything else?"

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-04-25 12:17 pm UTC (link) Track This Mary shook her head. "But I should get dressed like you said," she agreed as she stood up, holding onto her towel. "Just gimme a minute and I'll be back."

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-04-25 12:20 pm UTC (link) Track This He nodded, "take your time." He put the bottle of milk down to stand up and walk around her apartment. Despite the buzz under his skin, he did want to see where she lived and explore.

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-04-25 12:23 pm UTC (link) Track This Mary didn't hurry to find her clothes and when she was finally dressed in jeans and a t-shirt she emerged, leaning in her doorway while she combed her still-damp hair. Her smile was smile but amused.
"Find anything interesting?" she asked the Aztec.

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-04-25 12:26 pm UTC (link) Track This He shook his head, finding no reason to lie nor pretend he wasn't exploring. "No. Not really." He had nothing else to do with his energy so he allowed himself to be warmer, making sure he wasn't about to blind anyone or attract attention.

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-04-25 12:31 pm UTC (link) Track This Mary smirked a little at his response. "I'll try and get more fascinating things," she promised him with a faux-serious nod.
She was near enough to him that she could feel the heat radiator and she said, "Man, I should kidnap you in winter to keep my heating bills down."

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-04-25 12:33 pm UTC (link) Track This "I am curious that's all." He chuckled to her comment before growing more serious. She didn't need him cheery. She needed him serious and he could be that. "I am willing to provide. I'm told I'm quit handy."

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-04-25 12:37 pm UTC (link) Track This His laughter had made her feel a little better though and she put her comb down, walking over to wrap her arms around him and rest her cheek against his chest. "Thank you for coming," she whispered, taking the comfort from him that she could.

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-04-25 12:41 pm UTC (link) Track This He smiled as she hugged him and settled his arms around her, running his fingers along her hair. "Thank you for letting me in." Smiling he kissed the top of her head, holding her for as long as she would let him.

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-04-25 08:15 pm UTC (link) Track This She remained there against him, wordless, for a very long time. When she did finally draw away from him it was only because he was too warm for her. Mary sniffed a little, still feeling far too delicate and easy to make cry, and wiped under her eyes with index finger.

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-04-25 11:14 pm UTC (link) Track This With a smile he brushed his finger under her eye before stepping back. "I'll be here for as long as you want me here." Not that he needed conversation or anything else. He was just happy to be here. He kissed her forehead before stepping back.

[info]gospel_of_mary 2011-04-25 11:53 pm UTC (link) Track This Mary gave him a wavering smile of her own and a little nod. She was happy as well to just spend some time together in quiet. It was just nice to be with someone.
She drew him over to the couch by his hand. "Would you mind if I fell asleep on you a little?" she asked him.

[info]bluehummingbird 2011-04-25 11:57 pm UTC (link) Track This He followed her and sat down, extending his arm to her. "I never mind." He liked holding her, watching her as she slept. And if that's what she needed, he'd give it to her. He was still energetic and the buzz would remain, but he could ignore it.
