Marius' life was easy and quiet. He kept the house safe, and did what his owner needed him to do. He had no desires or wants. He existed. It was all he'd ever known, and ever wanted to know.
He didn't like going outside. The sky was too big and too empty, but occasionally he had to. He had to walk along the borders of his house and ensure his protection remained. It didn't keep anyone from going inside, but it let people know the house was kept. To mortals it just felt odd. Homey, but not home. Not many understood the subtle things about his existence.
When he heard the voice he looked up and stepped back a bit. Humans were a thing he didn't much like, the influence of his master made him think so, and he hadn't thought he was visible. Either she'd seen him, or he'd let himself slip. Neither were options he was enjoying.
Still. He may not like her but he knew enough about them to know sometimes giving them a hello was enough. "Sorry. I did not see you." He couldn't help but sound old, the accent of a Roman still lingering in his speech. Many were confused about that. Cautiously he stepped closer. "May I aid you?"
