WHO: Lena and Joey (can be open if anyone else wants to visit but can stand alone)
WHAT: Hospital visits
WHEN: Thursday Morning
WHERE: Joey's hospital room
WARNINGS: Mentions of ickyness
Lena poked her head into Joey's hospital room and when she caught sight of the state Joey was in, her face crumpled. He was awake, by chance, and it was hard to miss Lena's shockingly bright hair against the white backdrop of the room. "I have to say, the faces people make when they see me just don't get old," he said dryly.
"Shut up," Lena whispered to him and then she clamped a hand over her mouth to keep from sobbing openly. Her dearest and oldest friend was lying in front of her, more broken than she had ever seen anyone. She rushed across the room and climbed right up onto his bed even though it was likely not allowed. She was small and she fit just fine.
If Joey minded, he didn't show it. In fact, the moment she was in reach he wrapped his arms around her and she settled in against him, her head on his shoulder.
"I missed your stupid hair," she said quietly, muffled into the pillow.
Joey glanced over at her and he chuckled for a moment before gazing at her sadly. "Missed yours too."
"I called your family," she admitted.
"What?" Joey looked shocked at the very idea.
"Yeah." Lena snuggled into the pillow and she took a deep breath. "You were missing and I figured your parents have millions of dollars so they would be able to hire a PI or something. I left about two hundred messages on five different answering machines until your father called me and threatened to have me arrested for harassment." She frowned at him. "Your dad is scary."
"Super scary," Joey agreed. "Thanks for trying though. More than some people did."
Lena sniffed, and she frowned at her friend. She wanted so badly to ask him what he had been through. He had been gone for three weeks and she hadn't been a part of that. It wasn't that she wanted to be, but she did want to know what he had been through. How was she going to help him if she didn't know the things that had been done to him. The idea of asking him though, that made her freeze up. So instead of grilling him about the things he had suffered, she just leaned her head down and kissed his shoulder. "Love you," he whispered.
"Love you too," he whispered back, closing his eyes to let himself truly feel safe for the first time in weeks. Instead of talking about wounds that were far too fresh, they lay there in suffering silence.
