He wanted to demand she move back in with him and if it had been anyone else, he probably would have. Jane was likely the one person he didn't want to order around. He may have done so in the past, but this was different. In these modern times, women had all sorts of strange ideas about what they were allowed to do. If he commanded her to stay with him, she just might leave. And with Jane, he absolutely wouldn't risk it. He didn't want to lose her, nor did he want to have reason for her perfect memory to be tarnished.
"I've had to," he said, not without regret. "It wasn't easy at first, learning to do things on my own. It's a cruel twist of fate that memory should bring us back but not provide us with the life we were once accustomed." He smiled at her. "You were once a queen. Tell me, what do you do now?"
