Who: Raiden and Amphitrite What: Time to ruin one of Poseidon's kidlets. Where: Streets of New York When: Monday, December 12, 2011 Warnings: Possible drownings almost.
His words rang through her mind every day, like a jammed record repeating the same word until she couldn't take it anymore. Her mother locked herself up refusing to talk which made the young girl slump into eerie state. She was quiet. She'd seen Triton after the ordeal, but even he could not give her comfort. Raiden needed to deal with this on her own. Her father had finally pulled a move that stunted her hopes. They were dashed in every direction. She wasn't sure she still had the same fascination for him or not.
She needed air.
Bundling up the willowy girl made her way down the streets, looking in various shops. Nothing appealed to her, not even food. Part of her pressed on wondering how long this feeling would last. She'd never been this depressed before. In the last week she'd hardly spoken a full sentence. Not even to Thetis. She went to school, did her job, came home and went to bed. It was a terrible pain inside that she'd never experienced.
It wasn't unusual for Amphitrite to be at the harbor, but when she felt someone approaching she couldn't quite figure out who or what it was. It wasn't exactly familiar but yet she felt she knew it somehow. She couldn't explain it. And somehow she didn't like it. She waited, leaning against the railing and watched from the corner of her eye.
The young girl wasn't anyone she knew and yet she had seen that face somewhere. More than once... and those eyes, even from this distance, were familiar. While it took her a few minutes for it all to click, it finally did.
It was the girl who had decided to show up and piss her off even more.
She stood up straight and walked with a purpose toward the girl. "Why are you here?" She wasn't subtle and she wasn't about to tip-toe around this. Poseidon wasn't around and she wasn't aware of Triton's or Thetis' protection of the girl, so she would do as she pleased right now.
Raiden jumped at the question, her hand dashing back to clutch against her chest, holding her coat lapels together. "Oh..." she stammered not sure who it was she was speaking to.
It felt strong, the presence that the woman gave off. She wasn't sure how to approach it. She gave a slender smile, confused by her question. She looked at the woman with wide-filled eyes, those crystal blue eyes just like her father's.
"I like it here," she looked sweetly towards the water as it sashayed against the harbor. "It's beautiful this time of year."
Some people might have thought the girls reaction was cute, but Amphitrite just saw it as annoying. She felt the girl was overacting and now she just wanted to slap her.
Those eyes were enough for her to want to strangle the girl until she stopped breathing. Why did this one child have such a strong impact on her? She couldn't explain it and she hated it. It was probably the timing in which this one had decided to crop up.
"Do not speak to my water that way," she said possessively. In this moment she felt the sea was as much hers as it was Poseidon's and she would be damned if she let this girl try to have any connection to it; it didn't help how sweet this child was acting. "All you know is what you see. You know nothing until you have lived, breathed, and survived its wonders."
Her mouth fell open just slightly, her skin prickled with goosebumps. What had she said?
She studied the woman for a minute, in dumb wonderment before it clicked. "Lady Amphitrite?" she gasped, that smile slightly creeping against her adorable features. She held out a hand even if none was offered. She felt herself come back in that moment, though Poseidon's words still hung close.
"The sea is Otousan's, it is a part of me." She was determined just like him. She was still a princess of the sea.
Her eyes narrowed when the girl finally showed some intellect. Instead of taking her hand she slapped it away in disgust. "I have no desire to touch nor get to know you, child."
"The sea belongs as much to me as it does to Poseidon. We share a responsibility that you will never understand. I am Queen of the Sea and you will not tell me it does not belong to me. You are insignificant.
She was so sharp, Amphitrite voiced the same hate she felt her father held for her. It was heartbreaking to think she'd warranted such disgust. Pulling her hand back, Raiden cast her eyes to the open water.
"It can belong to me too, as it does to Triton. To Rhode, to all of you." She was one of them. "I am a child of Poseidon, that won't ever change." Raiden was the result of Poseidon's sick fascination with the Japanese.
Amphitrite held her head high as she looked down on this girl. "You are a bastard, nothing more. The sea belongs to those of us who are gods. You are a half-ling. You are not my child, therefore it does not belong to you. Only the children of Poseidon and Amphitrite and those born of the sea may hold any claim to it."
Her disgust only grew as she spoke. "But you, child. You are just a blot. You should have stayed away. You ruined everything when you decided to show your face."
The girl's delicate brow furrowed. "I'm not nothing!" she insisted proudly. Why couldn't she be more than that? She was getting tired of being told she was just a waste of airspace. By anyone. "I am still his child, even if I'm not yours." She was no different than any of Poseidon's other half-lings.
There was a power in her voice even if it didn't raise any waves with it. She was stubborn like him, she held her own, she was going to prove that she was not a blot to wash away.
Amphitrite glared down at the girl and could no longer suppress her rage at this child's intolerance. She slapped Raiden as hard as she could. "You are part of no myth's. There will never be any stories about you. That is where you are different, child."
She wanted no more part of this and turned to walk away.
It was then that Raiden reached out to touch her, even after she was slapped across the face. It stung. Like pins and needles against her cheek, breaking skin with a bruise.
She wanted to reach out, so she did. She was trying very hard to be something in this mixed up world she really didn't understand.
Amphitrite did stop, even if it only angered her more. "Never touch me. Never speak to me or say my name. The only children I care for are my own. Count yourself lucky I haven't drowned you."
"What did I do?" the girl asked, trying her best not to sound like she was pleading. She didn't understand, too thick-headed like her father to know when to just stop.
"I want to be a part of his life." She was still going to cling to that, no matter what he told her.
Amphitrite hated this. She hated this situation and that she just had to run into the girl. She was the whole reason she had left in the first place. "You showed up and you ruined what good was happening between Poseidon and me."
She finally tore her arm away, "Well don't do it when I'm around. You aren't my child and therefore you mean nothing to me. Leave me be and don't try to contact me. Ever." She warned and started off again.
Her heart started to beat rapidly, because she wasn't sure how to respond to that. She wanted to cry, her tears started to prick her eyes but she didn't budge. "I don't wish to break up your marriage. I just...wanted to meet my father."
Amphitrite just kept walking, "I care nothing for your tears, child. I'm not the one to make pleas to. You'll have to take that up with Poseidon." Her walk led her right to the harbor without a second thought. She was naturally drawn to the sea, but she had no special powers. She couldn't bend the water, couldn't make waves or even speak to the water in the ways her siblings could. Not yet. It was the first time that she stood in front of the water, her fingers reaching over the railing that she felt the ocean speak. It was at least some comfort, it gave a very broken girl hope once again.
