WHO: Bridget and David and Rhiannon [NPC] WHAT: Honeymooning! And possibly meeting Bridget's sister WHEN: SO backdated to early November while they are on their honeymoon WHERE: Wales! Caernarfon (pronounced Car-nar-von) to be specific! WARNINGS: Likely none!
Bridget could hardly hide her delight at being back in the country of her birth. She loved the way it lit David up as well. Now, however, she was back in the city of her birth as well. The sleepy little town her sister still lived in. Her relaxed and happy personality faded to nerves and stress.
Bridget was pacing in their hotel room, early in the morning. She couldn't decide if it was a good idea to head over to her sister's house or not. They could always go see the castle instead. Go be tourists. Go do anything except see the sister Bridget was sure would reject her.
David dozed lightly, feeling rejuvinated, for more reasons than one. Being back in Wales made him feel more at peace than he'd felt in a long time, and he wondered why he hadn't thought to come back before now. Also, being able to have fantastic sex with his wife and not feel guilty about it was amazing.
Bridget's pacing brought him back to the real world, and he opened his eyes and watched her for a minute before sitting up with a yawn. "Bridgie, come sit. Please."
Bridget looked over at him and the very sight of him made her smile. She did as he asked, wandering over to take a seat near the edge of the bed. She threaded her fingers through his hair and leaned in to kiss his cheek. "I was just...worried about today."
"I know you are darling. I'll be right with you, I promise." David kissed her back and squeezed her hand gently. "Do you want to get some coffee before we go, to boost your confidence?" It was possibly still a little early for visiting, but then- David realised he didn't really know a lot about Bridget's sister, and wondered if she knew either.
"Coffee is a good idea," Bridget nodded quickly. "I was debating just going to visit the castle instead of my sister, but...no. No, I should do this."
"Yes. You should," David said firmly, getting up out of bed. He dressed, a little conscious of wanting to look as presentable as he could. "How much talking do you want me to do? If she's anything like you, I won't be able to get a word in edgewise." He gave Bridget a teasing smile.
Bridget laughed loudly at that and then she swatted at him lightly. "I don't talk nearly as much as those brothers of yours! But I would never want you to just stand there silently. Say whatever you want, David."
David shrugged with a smirk. "Come on. I'm ready to go now, lets go get coffee and build up our confidence a little." He held his hand out to Bridget to hold hers firmly, both to reassure her, and because he didn't want to not be touching her, ever.
Bridget nodded, taking his hand easily. She had to admit she liked the contact as well. He was so reassuring, not to mention she found him unerringly sexy.
"I'm glad I'm here with you," she smiled brightly at him. "This is where I grew up, and I love that I am coming back here with you."
"I grew up around Ceredigion," David replied as they walked outside, towards the coffee shop. "I believe my ah, counterpart, is still around there. He'd a bit of a Luddite though. He had a phone installed because George made him, but he never uses it. We don't talk much."
"We should go visit him anyway," Bridget said, giving his hand a squeeze. "It's polite." She was interested to see another Dewi that wasn't her Dewi as well.
David laughed. "Okay. But lets focus on this visit first, shall we?" The trip to the coffee shop didn't take long, and they drank it slowly. Eventually, they ran out of things to dawdle about, so started making their way towards Bridget's sister's place. David held Bridget's hand for reassurance. "Are you ready?"
Bridget sighed and she nodded when David suggested focusing on the visit at hand. "I suppose I am ready," she said, nodding quickly. "W- what do I do if she just turns me away?" They were now standing at the end of the footpath leading up to the home Bridget had grown up it. "It looks...so small."
"Go on. You can do it." David gave Bridget a little nudge towards the front door. "If you stand here too long you'll lose your nerve. I'm right behind you darling."
Bridget chewed on her lip and then she finally stepped forward and rang the bell.
It took a few minutes but the door was eventually pulled open and then Bridget's sister Rhiannon stepped into view.
Rhiannon was taller than Bridget, and more slender. She looked more serious and the lines on her face looked like worry lines and not smile lines like Bridget's. Rhiannon frowned and then she let out a breath. "Bri."
Bridget swallowed and she gestured for David to join her. "Rhiannon, I- You didn't come to the wedding and we- This is our honeymoon. Heh. I wanted to-"
Rhiannon held her hand up, shook her head in exasperation, and then pulled Bridget in for a hug. Over Bridget's shoulder she said, "so you must be David then?"
He let out a breath he hadn't been aware he was holding. "Yes, bore da Rhiannon. It's lovely to meet you," David said politely, holding out a hand to shake. He was glad that she'd greeted Bridget so positively, he hadn't been sure what to expect, what with the way Bridget was worrying about it so much.
When Rhiannon finished hugging a terribly relieved Bridget, she shook David's hand. She still wasn't smiling, and that trend continued when she said, "you lot better come in out of the cold."
Bridget reached for David's hand and led him into Rhiannon's living room. She had grown up here and even though she hadn't been here in a decade, it still smelled the same. Memories slammed into her like a lorry. "Rhi, I'm sorry-"
Rhiannon waved her hands around. "Look, you frustrate me. But I guess that's what little sisters are supposed to do. I didn't come to your wedding because I didn't know if I was actually welcome. I never expected you to show up on my doorstep."
Bridget chewed on her lip and then she said, "I really wished you were there."
Rhiannon nodded once and then she headed into the kitchen to make some tea. "I have felt that way every day since you left, Bridge."
To that remark, Bridget frowned over at David, feeling terribly guilty.
David gave Bridget a reassuring look. "Part of the reason for us coming to Wales was to come here. Bridget misses you a lot," he said, not sure if he should really be sticking his oar in, but wanting to be supportive. "Do you need help with the tea?"
Bridget was actually glad David had said that because it probably would have taken a long time for her to say it. When Rhiannon faced away from them and muttered, "it's okay I have it," Bridget stood.
"I'll help you," Bridget offered. It was hardly going to make up for years of leaving Rhiannon to take care of their mother by herself, but it was a start.
They two sisters made tea in silence and when they came back into the living room to join David, Rhiannon said, "I am glad you both came."
