Who: Poseidon, Amphitrite, Thetis and Triton Where: New York Harbor When: Late Monday night/early Tuesday morning What: Poseidon has been playing hooky down in Hades for too long, now he rises to the surface and he has his own little fan club coming to beat his ass for it. The water gods reunite! Warnings: A nude Poseidon for a brief time? Believe it or not he's not got a lot to say just yet. Notes: You guys can hit in whatever order you wish! It had been a month or more that Poseidon had spent in Hades' lair. Those weeks had felt like years. In that time his soul had been tortured in ways that he'd long since deserved. His own visions and screams being the only thing to keep him from breaking, and at times that felt almost easier. Though the body was not present, the mind had told him otherwise and the affliction had nearly been unbearable.
Just when it seemed a hopeless feat the woman of his visions returned to him, each time as if with some sort of purpose and not just to keep his mind from giving in to complete darkness. She was his savior, reaching out her hands and then disappearing almost as fast as she had appeared. With each encounter he came closer to seeing her face and when it had finally been revealed, the image had startled him. She'd touched him soothingly, her voice like velvet against his ear though everything inside felt as if it had been ripped in two. Even now as he'd traveled the waves of the Underworld to the world of the living, her voice haunted him. In truth Amphitrite would be no where in sight, she had no reason to be, and when he appeared he didn't expect her to be. She had been his mind's guide and nothing more though his heart still beat wildly for her.
The oceans called for him, whether or not the rest of them wanted him there. Nature herself, the sea creatures and even the horses he had created were in calamity without him. They pulled him back with their desire and the world's belief. Hades couldn't keep him forever. The Greeks may be ancients in this world now but Poseidon was still powerful enough to resist his brother's hold.
Now he thrashed against the very oceans he reigned, reconnected with his body that she had kept tucked safely away. She'd healed it in his absence, nurturing it like a skin to fit snug around him when his soul surfaced.
The weight was heavy. The ocean curled around him with her loving embrace, joyous and triumphant for her captain, but something was different. Poseidon now felt suffocated in her grasp, his lungs not able to adjust to the salty waters. So long out of water he'd been that the sense of breathing was difficult. He thrashed and pushed the waves away, barely able to swim, surfacing so he could breathe, slapping the edge of a dock to hoist himself up on. His hands gripped against warm pavement digging his palms into it as he gasped for air. Water filled his lungs, the body struggling to remember how to survive.

She spotted the dark head on the end of a dock, and ran over to the struggling figure. Even if it wasn't Poseidon, whoever it was obviously needed help. She was about four feet away when her brain finally caught up with her eyes. After all this time, Poseidon was back.
She ran to the end of the dock, helping him up onto the platform as best she could, silently thanking anyone who would listen that finally something was going right.
"I'm glad you're back," she said quietly. "The sea has missed you. Your family has missed you." (Reply to this)(Thread)
neptune_storm 2011-08-01 09:26 pm (local) (link) There were words floating around that were just murmurs to his ears as he flapped down on his back trying to regain his breathing. It was a struggle, like a fish out of water.
His skin suddenly felt awkward, as if it had been stretched around him just to keep everything inside. It didn't feel right and all the things he'd been put through in Hades still clung to his body though there were no outer bruises to show for it.
He coughed sputtering out water and closing his eyes as he tried to breathe. The stormy vortex that had sat on the coast for days had finally dwindled to calm waters. With her captain near there was no reason wail. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
argyropeza 2011-08-01 09:34 pm (local) (link) He was a mess, struggling for breath and looking half-drowned, not at all the confident god she had seen before he died. He didn't seem to have heard her at all, so she knelt down next to him, trying to see if he was injured at all. There weren't any physical marks, but that didn't mean anything.
"What you need, I think," she said, slipping into her 'mom' voice, "is a hot bath, a hot meal, dry clothes and some scotch. The order is negotiable. And I need to call Amphitrite and tell her exactly where we are. She must know you're back because the storm has died down, but beyond that, who can say?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
wreathed_horn 2011-08-01 09:37 pm (local) (link) Even after all this time, Triton couldn't put to words exactly how he felt with his father disappearing. Without Poseidon, Triton wasn't much of anything and he hated that. He hated how dependent on his father he was.
He'd drawn back from everything, even Mel. He knew he'd have to apologize for that, but there were no words to explain it all.
He'd felt it the minute his father had re-surfaced and had driven to the pier. There he found his Aunt standing over the form of his father. Sighing he moved closer and shrugged off his jacket. "Father." He spoke in the old tongue of the Greeks, figuring his father may react to that better. Out of all of them he'd always been the one to calm his father's rages. Maybe he could do something similar now.
"Father it's me." He glanced to his Aunt, "he needs to get the water out of his system, or to adjust to it." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
argyropeza 2011-08-01 09:51 pm (local) (link) "Triton, thank the gods you're here," she said, standing back to let him approach his father, switching into Greek as he had done, almost without thinking about it. "He's been coughing up water since I found him, which can only be a good thing, I think. He's been cut off from the sea for so long, I'm not surprised he's reacting like this." neptune_storm 2011-08-01 10:00 pm (local) (link) The sea spoke now in a soothing tongue, angelic almost, Triton's presence having some effect. Poseidon wasn't even aware of where he was. His arms still felt heavy, wrists and knuckles raw from being tied back. Every inch of his body hurt in a fashion he wasn't used to.
Once his eyes opened they were bloodshot, lungs still struggling to take in the water as it drained down the sides of his mouth. He coughed again still laying flat until he forced himself to sit up and focus on the world around him. The voices were still murmurs but he could make out words even though his body shivered, water still filling up his ears. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
wreathed_horn 2011-08-01 10:12 pm (local) (link) He smiled to his Aunt, "I felt him. Can you call my mother for me Aunt? She'll have felt it, but tell her to go to his home, that he isn't responding or aware but alive. Tell her to find a healer, preferably one of us." Once his father sat up he snapped his fingers in front of his father's eyes. "Poseidon. Basileus. Pelagaeus. Come to now."
He set his jacket around his father and his hands under his fathers chin to get him to look at him to meet his eyes. "He should feel lucky. If it was me, you know what he'd do? He'd hold me under the water until I remembered myself." He frowned, "And I tell you, I'm tempted. For everything he did to my mother, to me. To Mel." He shook his head, "I'm a better man though. I'll just be tempted." Sighing he took out his keys and handed them to his Aunt, "there's a blanket in my trunk, could you get it?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
argyropeza 2011-08-01 10:41 pm (local) (link) "I've been watching the storm," she said quietly. "Coming down to the pier every night, thinking maybe I'll see something. I didn't know if I'd feel anything, since I don't have a direct blood tie to him."
"Of course," she replied, pulling out her cell phone and dialing before she'd even finished speaking. She relayed everything that Triton had said, speaking in as calm a tone of voice as she could manage.
"I don't doubt it at all," she replied, kneeling down next to him. "And I don't blame you at all. But you are the better man, so let's get him up and home, and try to get him back to himself." She nodded and took the keys, jogging back to the car, locating the blanket, and bringing it back. She settled it around Poseidon's shoulders, pulling the edges in so that he would be both warm and covered. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
sea_born 2011-08-02 08:49 am (local) (link) Amphitrite had done what she could while Poseidon was gone. While at first she had felt like a wounded animal, lost without her own captain just as the sea had been, it was the pain of her daughter that snapped her back. She was their Queen and she must be their strength in the absence of their King. So that is exactly what she did. Unlike Poseidon, she did not take advantage of the things she ruled over and though she had limited reign even next to his side she had still used almost every ounce of her power to keep things from going to chaos. She had been quiet those last few weeks and for good reason.
Thetis had not needed to call her, as Amphitrite had been waiting quietly in shadow, waiting for this. She was not unaware of the storm and with every passing day felt as though he was closer to returning. The moment he came was the moment she would relinquish the throne right back to him. In this moment there would be no gentleness or sympathy; she knew what he had gone through and she had suffered with him.
Though she stayed back as she watched her sister and son take care of Poseidon it was when her phone rang that she snapped back to reality. Being calm with Amphitrite was futile in this case, she already knew what was going on, there was no need. With a heavy sigh after hanging up she came from her hiding place and approached. Without a word to her son she looked down to Poseidon, "There is more for you to fix. Your mere presence is not enough." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
neptune_storm 2011-08-02 10:23 am (local) (link) He had just gotten to his feet when Amphitrite showed, pulling the cover Thetis gave him closer around his chest. Both she and his son helped him stand and it was as if his legs had no energy at all.
His tall form was not as sturdy as it had been before, and the bright lights of the street lamps hurt his eyes. When Amphitrite spoke he looked in her direction seeing the same beautiful face he had in his visions for weeks. He spoke not a word, just mumbles under his breath and reached out a hand to touch her. His fingers hit the skin of her cheek waiting for her to vanish again as she had before. The fact that she didn't almost startled him just as much as seeing her there in front of him.
"Amphitrite," he said in a hoarse whisper. The water still burned his throat. He needed it to retain his role instead of rejecting it. It had just been so long. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
sea_born 2011-08-02 01:23 pm (local) (link) There were things between she and Poseidon that didn't need to be spoken and this moment was one of them. Though she felt a great weight lifted she could feel another settling in its place. She turned to look at Thetis and Triton in turn, "Let's get him to my apartment. He can stay there until he's used to being back." She made no acknowledgment of hist ouch.
It wasn't a decision she wanted to make but it was the best option. She could keep an eye on him and make sure he did his job. "Besides," she said, "the penthouse is demolished and he has no home of his own to go back to. Unless he wishes to get his sea legs again," she said looking back to him with a hint of humor. wreathed_horn 2011-08-02 02:17 pm (local) (link) When his mother had appeared he'd fallen quiet. The relationship between her and his father almost defined complicated. He was pretty sure that word alone was not strong enough either.
"My car is right there," he said when his mother noticed him. "Best to get him in there. I can fit both of you as well." He gave his mother a dry look, "don't tempt me. He'd do it to the both of us without a second's hesitation." He shook his head and made sure he supported his father before walking to the car. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
argyropeza 2011-08-02 06:47 pm (local) (link) Now that Amphitrite was here, Thetis felt like maybe she didn't need to be here as much. But she had pulled a half-drowned Poseidon out of the ocean, and she was going to see this through to the end.
"Of course," she said, taking out Triton's keys again. "I'll open the car," she said. She looked over at Triton. "And that's why you're the better man," she said with a small smile, walking back to the car and opening the doors.

neptune_storm 2011-08-02 09:38 pm (local) (link) Poseidon didn't like his control being swiped from under him but he was in no position to protest, he hadn't the strength. He staggered to the car on his own, his mind was elsewhere. There was still the thought that he was in another of his own mirages, and at any moment it would disappear. sea_born 2011-08-02 09:42 pm (local) (link) Before she could talk herself out of his, she put an arm around Poseidon's waist to help her son get him to the car. "You know I wouldn't hesitate to dive in and save you myself." She gave Thetis an appreciative look. If anyone knew how she felt about her son, it was her sister.
She sighed quietly as they got Poseidon to the car. She was tempted to say to just toss him in the back, or the trunk, but bit her tongue. All the worry and stress he had put her through, it was no wonder she felt bitter toward him. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
argyropeza 2011-08-02 09:59 pm (local) (link) Thetis smiled at her sister. "You would, and I would have been right behind you, if you had needed it."
She made sure everyone got settled, before turning to Triton and passing him his keys. "It's your car," she said. "Unless you'd like me to drive?" (Reply to this)(Parent)
wreathed_horn 2011-08-02 10:00 pm (local) (link) He smiled to both his mother and his aunt, settling his father in the back seat once they arrived at his car. "Mother, best you sit next to him. Aunt, sit in front with me." With a sigh he walked to the front of his car and slid into the drivers seat, running a hand through his hair. He didn't know why he was making the effort. His father would just be as ungrateful for it as he ever was. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
neptune_storm 2011-08-02 10:09 pm (local) (link) Poseidon settled in the car with Amphitrite beside him. He stared out the window the bustle of buildings and lights passing by, leaning his head against the door frame. He was exhausted. In his mind years had passed and everything inside cringed with the change.
His eyes would close and open again, wrapping the blanket around and back off his shoulders when he became too hot. He had little to say to either of them, and had he been able his voice was cracked. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
sea_born 2011-08-03 08:23 am (local) (link) Amphitrite finally smiled, but it was only to Thetis. Her sister meant a lot to her; all three of them did. But it was Thetis who knew most of all everything she had been through and who understood. They had been there for each other, it had made them closer.
She didn't care who drove, she just needed to get Poseidon out of public before anyone started snooping. After they had all gotten into the car, she nodded to Triton, "You know where to go."
