Who: Amphitrite and Thetis When: Friday, early afternoon Where: Amphitrite's apartment, then maybe elsewhere Warnings: tbd Amphitrite was excited to see her sister again. She hadn't actually been near her for many years now and just talking with her over a journal wasn't good enough. She both needed and wanted to see Thetis, because they had been so important to each other in the past. The closest they had been to physical contact were the gifts they'd sent on Mothers Day. She loved seeing her sisters writing again.
There seemed to be a permanent smile on her face since things had taken a turn for the better. While she may still think of a certain sea king from time to time and it did make her irritable she was more focused on other things. Perseus was good company and she had come to like him. She felt like a school girl with how giddy she would get. Even if they had been forced together by an arrow, what went on between them now wasn't forced.
argyropeza 2011-05-20 05:55 pm (local) (link) Thetis was practically giddy as she made her way to Amphitrite's apartment. After much too long, she was finally going to see her sister again, her sister who may have grown up to be Queen, but she was still the person Thetis remembered. And now, with everything that had happened, she was so proud of Amphitrite for standing up for herself and leaving. Her sister deserved so much better than that.
As she approached the address she'd been given, she felt the familiar tug at the back of her mind. It had to be Amphitrite, and her smile got a little bigger, and she walked a little faster. She found the correct door and knocked, smoothing down her hair and bouncing a little in place. (Reply to this)(Thread)
sea_born 2011-05-21 08:15 am (local) (link) There was something about seeing family again that made Amphitrite feel warm inside. And it wasn't that mushy feeling people get when they're talking about puppies or rainbows. It was a real feeling that made her happy. It was that energy that other immortals could feel, and in this case it was a happy, warm feeling for Amphitrite. It was the same as when she was around her son.
Before long she had seen a blond head coming toward her building and with the energy that seemed to accompany it she leaned in against the window, sure that was her sister. When it entered the building she turned and hurried to the door and when someone knocked she hurriedly opened the door. It was like long lost friends being reunited as she didn't hesitate and moved out the few inches to meet her sister in a tight embrace. "I'm so happy to see you." Between her being on her own and finally feeling free again she was much happier. She was more the nymph she used to be and not the Queen she'd been made into. It was wonderful. "Come in, come in," she said and stepped back. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
argyropeza 2011-05-21 11:35 pm (local) (link) Thetis beamed at her in return, hugging her sister tight. Not that her son wasn't excellent company, and she did love him dearly, but she'd missed her sister something terrible, and know that they were finally in the same city, she intended to make up for all that lost time. "It is so wonderful to see you," she murmured in Amphitrite's ear. "I've missed you."
She followed her inside, shutting the door behind her. She knew there were things she needed to say, and the gift she'd promised to bring Amphitrite felt heavy in her pocket, but for now, she was just determined to enjoy her sister's company. "How have you been?" she asked. "Aside from...well, aside from the obvious." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
sea_born 2011-05-22 12:46 pm (local) (link) Amphitrite wouldn't be too thrilled to find out what Thetis would eventually want to talk about. She just wanted this to be a time for she and her sister to catch up. To relax and be the nymphs they once were. It was nice to have that again.
"Surprisingly well," she said with all honesty. She lead the way into where the food and drinks lay waiting. "Help yourself. I didn't know what you'd want, so I got a little of just about everything," she said with a grin. And if it happened they'd end up going out and having dinner elsewhere she wouldn't mind at all. "How've you been?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
argyropeza 2011-05-22 07:49 pm (local) (link) Truth be told, Thetis wasn't any more keen to get to that part. In fact, she planned to put it off as long as possible. She'd missed just being able to talk to her sister, to be around her and enjoy her company the way she used to. She'd missed it terribly.
"I'm glad to hear it," she replied with a smile. "You deserve it, you really do." She looked at the spread and grinned. "You really didn't have to go to so much trouble, but everything looks so wonderful." She picked up a few things and poured herself a drink, feeling a little lighter.
"I've been good," she replied. "Achilles came over for dinner on Mother's Day, he gave me this ring." She held up her hand to show Amphitrite, not wanting to go on and on, but it was one of her favorite presents from her son. "And the term is ending, thank the gods, if I have to look at any more papers, I might be forced to slap a few people's heads. Honestly, it's not hard to follow directions, but the way some of these are, you'd think I'd written the directions in Greek. Ancient Greek."
She broke off, laughing. "A teacher's peril, I suppose. I just have to keep reminding myself, 'I love my students. I love my job'." She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and asked, "So what have you been up to?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
sea_born 2011-05-23 01:26 pm (local) (link) Amphitrite smiled and shrugged, "It's just nice to feel free again. Now I can do things without knowing someone's looking over my shoulder. It's a relief." And it felt wonderful. She waved a dismissive hand, "It's no worry, really. We can snack, have girl talk and if you end up staying for a week we'll have the food," she laughed. It also felt nice to laugh again. Actually laugh, none of that sarcasm she'd grown accustomed to.
She looked at the ring and made a face that only a mother could make. "It's gorgeous. Our children being around seems to make things better, doesn't it?" Even the ones who are too much like their father for their own good, but she adored even Kymopoleia. "Triton took me out for dinner and got me these," she held out her wrist and then motioned to the necklace she wore. "He practically dragged me out, but I'd let him drag my anywhere to be honest."
Settling into an armchair she chuckled, "You should write the instructions in ancient Greek and see what they do." She made a face, "Ah, there ya go, it might be time for a career change if you have to say that." She shrugged again, "I'm trying to figure out what I'd be good at these days. I mean, there are things I enjoy and things I'm talented at, but as far as career goes there's nothing right now. Lately it's been spending time with Perseus and getting to know him, relaxing and remembering who I was before." It was a lot of reminiscing. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
argyropeza 2011-05-25 11:39 pm (local) (link) "I can imagine," Thetis replied. "Like a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders." She smiled. "If you're sure. It's fabulous, by the way," she added, popping one into her mouth. She chewed and swallowed before answering, "I'd like that. Even if it doesn't end up being a week, any time at all is good with me."
She beamed a little. "They really do. I don't care if he's thousands of years old, he's still my little boy." She leaned forward to look at her sister's jewelry. "They're gorgeous! He's such a thoughtful son."
"I should," she muttered, a little flippantly. "I'm imagining a lot of blank stares and, 'Ms. Leventis, what does this word mean?'." She leaned back in her chair. "But I honestly do love my job. The young people in my class have such a deep interest and love of the sea, most days it's a joy to teach them."
"Anything in particular you've always wanted to try?" she asked. "If it was me, that's where I'd start." Then she added, "He's good to you, right? I can play scary sister if you ever need me to." She smiled then. "I think that can only be a good thing." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
sea_born 2011-05-26 10:20 am (local) (link) Amphitrite took a deep breath and released. The sound was similar to that of the ocean breeze and she nodded. "Exactly. I've felt it for so long and I've known even longer I needed to get rid of it. I know what was holding me back and I only wish it had been done sooner." She chuckled and smiled, "You're always welcome. Even if you come pounding at the door at 3 in the morning, the door is always yours to come through."
She shook her head with a little laugh, "They're always our babies, no matter how old they get." She then beamed, "I'm so glad he ended up his mother's son." Amphitrite didn't finish that with instead of his fathers son because that would just mean she was momentarily thinking of Poseidon.
Amphitrite laughed loudly and was taken by a fit of giggles, "That's when you say, 'It means you're not as bright as you think you are,' and let them do the research. As long as you really enjoy it, I guess getting past the frustrations is a good thing."
Honestly, she couldn't think of anything and a light blush actually rose on her cheeks, "I don't know. I've been one way for so long I'd lost interest in most everything." She then nodded and said reassuringly, "He is. He doesn't need anyone going after him." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
argyropeza 2011-05-27 12:18 am (local) (link) For only a split second, Thetis was someplace else, remembering the way the wind used to sound when it blew in off the ocean. "I'm glad you have," she said, softly and sincerely. "I mean it, you deserve so much better, and I truly hope you find it." She smiled in return. "And you know you are always welcome in my home, anytime you wish."
She leaned back in her chair. "Exactly. He's centuries old, and I still remember the little nine-year-old boy I dressed as a girl. My only thought was keeping him safe." She twisted the ring around on her finger. "It still is." She grinned. "Well it was a good goal to aspire to."
She laughed, snorting a little bit. "Or respond in the same language. Though that would bring on more open mouths and glazed eyes. Sometimes I think I can see smoke coming out of their ears, they're all working so hard this time of year." She continued, "I really do, and there are always going to be bumps in the road. It's part of life, I suppose."
"Then maybe the time is best spent getting back to you," she said. "Doing things that you love, spending time with people you care about." She giggled. "Good, because in comparison to him, I'm not really very scary, I'd just wave my finger at him a lot, try to make some kind of speech, and end up giggling."
She could feel Poseidon's gift, the box cool and flat in her pocket, and she could almost hear his voice growling 'Get on with it, already' in her ear. She slid it out and placed it on the table.
"I didn't want to do this at all," she said, speaking very quickly. "But he threatened to leave my son without a mother, and I might not be frightened or intimidated by him the way others are, but I couldn't take that chance, I couldn't do that to my son. Although if he ever threatens me with physical harm again, I will make him very sorry for it."
She pushed it towards Amphitrite a little. "He called it a late Mother's Day gift." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
sea_born 2011-05-27 08:49 am (local) (link) Amphitrite smiled at her sister, "Thank you, for everything. It's so good to have you back." In the previous days Amphitrite had remembered so much of who she had been before she'd been made the Sea Queen that it was a little overwhelming. She still wasn't quite as carefree and joyous, but she had come a long way. There was always the chance she was never fully be that nymph again, but it was worth the try. At least she was making progress.
"I'm afraid that dressing Triton as a girl would only result in his father trying to bed him," she was clearly disturbed by this statement. "But Triton needs no protecting, no matter how much I might think he does. You did what you thought was right and I commend you for it. No one should ever question the love of a mother."
She was still laughing at the image of Thetis speaking Greek to her students and the looks on their faces when the box was set out. It wasn't until the announcement of who it had come from that made her silent. It felt like she had stared at it for hours, days before she slowly reached out a hand to open it.
It was indeed beautiful and under any other circumstance she might have said so, but the words that came from her sister mouth only made her close it again and set it down. "He threatened you?" Her voice, which had been pleasant before, was now cold and almost a whisper that if there had been any noise it would have been impossible to hear her. "He threatened you? To make you bring me this?" She wanted to find Poseidon and tear his heart out. No one threatened her sisters and got away with it. "The next time I see him I'll kill him." And there seemed to be no emptiness in her threat. "I'm sorry you were pushed into doing this. He shouldn't have gotten you involved."
