Who: Narcissus and Echo
What: Pretty-boy has a stalker.
Where: NY park
When: Monday, December 12th
Note: Reposted as a favour
Narcissus hated this time of year. It cracked his skin, draining all the moisture from his complexion. His voice was hoarse from the wind, even if he'd been inside all day during various magazine shoots. It was much later than he'd expected because of his photographer. The man had been over thirty minutes late, putting a huge dent in Narcissus' day. He was ready to finish up an hour earlier than expected, putting a halt to the photographer's shoot. Which had been the man's own foolish mistake. Time was of the essence, if he'd showed when he was supposed to, Narcissus would have felt more compelled to work. He'd lost his interest now.
He pulled his coat around him, holding it close to his face where his cheeks peeked a rose color. He wasn't aware that anyone followed him. Narcissus was hardly aware of anyone else but himself.

It was like fate was calling to Echo that morning. She hadn't intentionally followed whoever this young man was, but there was a force that seemed to pull her ever closer. As usual she wore her ear muffs to drown out the noises and voices around her. It was the only comfort she had left in the world.
She stopped occasionally to take a photo here and there, sometimes taking a picture of the one who compelled her so mysteriously. Did she know him? All she had seen so far was his backside and the moment she saw the front she would likely stop dead from shock. But that was yet to come. For now she was innocently taking photos.

He breathed into his hands, warming up that soft skin to rest them against his cheeks. The result worked for at least a few moments as he took long strides. He carried himself with arrogance, like most Greek men, but he did not hold his nose up in the air as other's would assume. Narcissus, the beautiful boy of legend. He carried himself strong, proudly. Almost like a soldier.
The tips of his ears started to turn pink as his walk paused at the edge of the street. He turned the corner onto the next street. He was on his own mission as the girl followed behind him. He hadn't even felt her presence, it was non-existent, or at least that's the story he gave himself when he walked into the local coffee shop.
She stood just a few feet from him. The door hadn't shut as he'd entered right away. Not like it would as if no one had been on his heels.
He kept his back to her, he would not look upon her face because that face was no one he'd ever cared to see. Still, now there was this insidious pull he couldn't explain.

Echo couldn't help but feel annoyed when he went into the coffee shop. Naturally he had to go into a crowded place. She wasn't even certain if she wanted anything right now, and yet she stepped into the line. Now with barely two feet between them she began to feel a strange nervousness. It was different than her usual social anxiety.
Although Eros had been right in his warning about him, Echo felt that it was possible for time to change people. Surely being alone would only make someone want to be with others, even if is was just friends. Echo never asked for love or romance. She had only ever wanted acceptance.
But she would probably never even get that.
When it was her turn she simply held up two fingers to indicate what she wanted.

Of course Narcissus would wander in a crowded place, he liked being seen. He demanded attention wherever he went even if he never once opened his mouth to speak to anyone.
It was hard to ignore that tinge against his skin when he felt her standing there beside him. She drew a few eyes with those strange muffs on her ears. Narcissus wasn't the only one to inwardly laugh at her appearance. Very unprofessional, hardly anything to remember, and yet he knew exactly who she was.
When she stepped past he blocked her path.
"Why are you following me?" he spoke so heavy she'd know his words without hearing them.

Echo had to admit, she wasn't expecting him to do that let alone say anything to her. And when she finally saw his face her instincts had proved correct. The same face as the one online. Though different now, he was still Narcissus and she felt a skip in her chest.
Why had she been possessed so? Why did Hera have to do something like this her? She couldn't even explain herself and she knew he wouldn't wait around for her to write it down. And she doubted he knew sign language.
Instead she shook her head and felt very embarrassed, feeling her cheeks heat up. She simply mouthed the words 'not following' as she couldn't say it freely.

He wanted her to scatter away, whipped with her tail between her legs like a dog. She had been such a constant in his story now for so long that ignoring her was nearly impossible now. When her head dropped he sneered, pushing her chin up. He'd rather her look at him with those downcast eyes. It proved he held a power over her still.
He hated her repetitive words, words he'd never understood. That charming smile turned sour. Narcissus waved her off. "You disgust me." Clearly, time had changed nothing about her. She was thin, her eyes much too wide, dark brows, a hidious nose. Repulsive.

Echo blinked at his words. They were so hateful and she didn't understand. What was so disgusting about her? Pan had found her pleasing. Had chased her. Had wanted her. A god. And yet this boy thought so little of her. It did break her heart and she didn't know why she loved him so. No doubt Eros could feel it, wherever he was.
Why she mouthed this time. She started to sign, asking what was so disgusting about her but she gave up when she realized he probably didn't have the time to learn something like that. To her surprise someone watching piped up, "She just asked why you think she's disgusting." The guy had been watching, figuring from the fact that she wasn't saying anything and trying to sign but him clearly not getting it that he couldn't speak and they needed some sort of mediator. He thought he was being helpful and Echo was shocked someone even tried to help her.

Narcissus didn't like the interruption. It meant the attention was on her. How dare she steal that from him? It made his insides boil, a feverish sort of jealousy.
It was enough for him to lose the taste of his coffee. He didn't even look at the boy that had intervened. It wasn't his place. They didn't know her like he did. The pathetic little creature that stuck to his heels like a lost puppy.
"Because she's pathetic." His eyes cast over her appalled that she showed her face like this. He pulled her muffs off, planting them in her hands. "Hiding in the shadows like before."

Even if it wasn't anyone's place to intervene the other guy looked pretty appalled himself. At Narcissus's bad attitude.
Before Echo could fight away from his hands her ear muffs were already in her hands and she was repeating his words.
That was when the tears began to fall. Eros had been right. She didn't need to think twice; she turned and ran out of the coffee shop, pulling the muffs back over her ears as she went.
