[info]holdingfast 2011-06-29 07:38 pm UTC (link) Track This He tilted his head and shrugged, "I'm going to say this one last time, so perhaps you'll understand. All I knew of you, Achilles, was a name and the armor. Patroclus had killed scores of my men before he got to me. All the tales fit. I killed a man. I killed scores of men during that war, all who had family who could hate me for it. I only knew I had the wrong man until he was dead at my feet. I gave him all the honors I could." He rolled his eyes, "I asked you for a final request and you denied it to me. And you kept it for days." He shook his head, "your Patroclus forgives me for his death. You should do the same."
He ran his hand through his hair, "I was raised for battle just as you were. I was just also raised to be my father's heir. I saw Troy, all the things my father had built and saw how I could improve. I knew I would never have my peace when Paris brought Helen to our home. You just saw something to conquer, an enemy. You didn't know how many of us tried to avert that war, how the council fought to put Helen back on a ship and sue for peace. But Paris was the favorite, so we got war."

[info]mydespair 2011-06-29 08:13 pm UTC (link) Track This After Cassandra had left to speak with Apollo, which startled her somewhat, she returned to Hector. She didn't have anyone else she would willingly speak with and even this conversation he was currently having put her on edge even more. And she had just seen Helen walk through door. Oh, well this is just a fabulous evening.
She had come just in time to hear Achilles' comment on Hector's body; oh well, this is a light-hearted topic. Stopping at those words she practically burned holes into the man she hated above all others. "Lies. I paid witness to what you did to my husband's body." Not only was her voice quiet and shaky but she appeared to be shaking a little as she spoke. "You only returned the body when you had your fun with it, while his widow and son made fatherless were forced to watch as you dishonored his name and memory. As for Helen, many of us petitioned her return. She was no good for our country just as much as she was for yours. Put the blame on that harlot, not us." She finally glanced at Hector, knowing he still held a soft spot for the woman.
"Cassandra is talking to Apollo," she warned Hector. "I'm leaving." That was all she could say, she was too angry to do much of anything else.

[info]holdingfast 2011-06-30 01:21 am UTC (link) Track This He gave Andromache a look and a sigh. No matter what, Helen had become family. It was honor mixed with affection. The girl hadn't deserved her fate any less then he'd deserved his own. "Andromache, calm down." He moved to her, setting his hands on her waist and kissing her. "I was finishing the conversation anyway." He smiled at her before looking to Achilles.
Her last words made him frown and swallow a curse, "wonderful." He frowned at her warning, "I'm driving. Andromache, please. Let me go get my sister and we'll go. I'm not leaving her here, with the sun god so close." He kissed her hands, "just wait near the door. I'll be right there. Don't leave this place without me." He turned to Achilles and nodded, "I'm taking my leave son of Thetis." He glanced to Andromache, "be careful love." Then he left them both to go get his sister.

[info]chink_in_armor 2011-06-30 01:36 am UTC (link) Track This Achilles' face flattened, his jaw clenched as he let the woman speak. She wasn't the only woman he'd made a widow, or her child the only son left without a father.
He held her no ill will for her abrasive words but it did not settle with him at all.
"We will meet again, Son of Priam," he countered. With Hector in the city now, knowingly, this would not be the last time they saw each other. This was not finished.
