Who: Oedipus and Jane Austen What: Eros Shenanigans When: Valentine's Day, early morning Where: Oedipus' Antique Shop Warnings: None as of now, TBD
Oedipus had disillusioned himself to believe he and Jocasta could actually still be something. He loved her, there was no getting around that. He'd loved her long before he'd known their devastating secret. Before Freud twisted his myth and made it something of disgust instead of a curious man learning the greatest lesson of his life. It no longer made his skin crawl, though it damn well should have made him head for the hills. While the Freudian part of him was willing to curl up into some lone cabin in the woods again, he stuck this out. He had no answer to give to the situation as it was now, but he wanted to help. For weeks, months maybe he'd had nothing but Jocasta on his mind. She'd lost her husband, her lover, son and everything in between in a short time since they'd discovered who they were. The suspense of where this would lead was killing him. He knew he was down the path of destroying himself again and he didn't give a damn.
This morning he woke without Jocasta in his head. It was pleasant. No worry. No thought that she'd ever existed or that he'd ever felt anything for her. It should have been the biggest tip off that he was under some wily love god's spell. It was the only explanation. He even whistled a happy tune on his way to work. There was something or someone else on his mind and he hadn't a clue who it was.
He was ready to open the doors to his shop, feeling more carefree than he had in ages. It was a nice feeling when he didn't feel a constant burden on his shoulders. Had no regrets. Not a cynical thought in his head. It was a lovely day. That came to a dramatic halt when he struggled to open his door. It was jammed. Running a finger across the door jam he realized some kids had tried to pry it open. A closer look through the window and it seemed the place had been ruffed up a bit. There were items in that store worth more than any idiotic teen could ever imagine. Of course he also had a pet that could scare grown men shitless. Teenage boys? They didn't even stand a chance against the Sphinx. Nothing looked taken from what he could see, just misplaced.
He shoved his body against the door to open it and push whatever was blocking the doorway with his weight.

She said good morning to the newspaper vender and walked away with a newspaper under her arm, as she always did. What was different about the day, was that she felt really too exceptionally good, like something amazing had happened to her and she didn't know what.
She paused next to a trash can to consider the headlines while she finished her coffee, when a noisy rattling sound distracted her. There was a man struggling with the door to his shop. Hurriedly, she discarded the coffee cup and walked over.
"Please let me help you," she said, dropping the paper on the ground and moving to throw her weight against the door too. It only took a moment, and then the door jerked open suddenly and Jane tumbled through, clutching at the man to stay upright and only managing to pull him down on top of her.
"Oh. I am so sorry," she said breathlessly. She had never seen such eyes in all her life.

Oedipus stood with a dumbfounded look on his face as if it were his natural expression. He didn't know this woman from Zeus, but she glowed like an angel. Either that or the sun was giving him a cataract as it shone in his face.
As he pressed his weight back to the door, she did as well and next thing he knew his back had hit the floor. He squinted his eyes with a small grunt, his head banging against the floor. There was a weight pressing on his, an entanglement of limbs, but when he opened his eyes he grinned stupidly.
He had no willpower to make her get up, he was quite comfortable. "It's alright." He could have damn well cracked his skull and all he could think about was how she shouldn't get up.

[info]marriagability 2012-02-22 07:42 am (local) (link) Track This Jane laughed a little, awkwardly but amused. "I should probably... um-" She managed to get out from her position on the floor and sat up, dusting down her coat. Still, she was smiling, a brightness to her eyes that hadn't been there in a long time. "Sorry again for pulling you over. You just looked as if you needed help."
