Who: Arthur and Morgan Le Fay
When: Wednesday
What: Keeping up with the little brother
Where: Arthur's office
Warnings: TBD
Finding her little brother's office had not been hard at all. Nor had getting in it been much more then asking to be let in. As Arthur had been gone, she'd expected to have to spell the secretary or fall on her charms, but when she hadn't needed either she assumed Arthur hadn't told a soul about her.
Something she imagined he'd change sooner or later. Especially since she'd so casually walked in.
When she was left to wait, with a promise they'd call her brother with the excuse of a client waiting for him, she'd taken to snooping. She didn't know what she'd find, nothing of true importance as she figured he'd lock that up, but she was curious. She'd never had such direct access to her brother's professional life.
With a smile she sat down in his chair and flipped through the files he'd left behind. Mortal affairs that meant nothing to her, but with her brother's signature desire to be good and do the right thing. Out of pure instinct to spite him she removed key portions of the papers, even though it was petty.
When she finished with that she looked around. She saw nothing of Merlin here either, which had to mean hey had not expected her to go this far. She'd just remind them to not underestimate her.
When the door opened and the familiar feel of Arthur preceded his person she grinned and leaned into the chair, watching her little brother as if from upon a throne. "Hello darling Arthur. I thought I might visit. Love the decor."
Arthur had felt her before he had seen her. He should have known it was Morgana when he was told an unexpected client had shown up. He leaned down to place his briefcase near the door and then he raised his eyebrows at her.
"No you don't," he said, glancing at the wood panelling he had covered in degrees and nature photos. "Do you have a legal matter you need me to attend to?"
She smiled but didn't move. She was quite comfortable where she was, and it send a subtle message that she saw herself as the one in control here.
"Honestly, I do. You've grown out of the whole obsession with sharp pointy bits. It's almost respectable here." She picked up a pen and toyed with it in her fingers. "Hardly. I was in the neighborhood and I though I should come see you. We never spend enough time together don't you think?"
Arthur decided not to mention is armory at home. Not yet.
"I think we spend more than enough time together," Arthur sighed. She made him feel so uneasy because he was highly aware whenever he was with her, she had the upper hand. Always.
"What, none at all? Mother would be terribly disappointed in us." which wasn't an exact truth.Arthur had always been Igraine's favorite, a picture perfect copy of the man who'd given her the world.
"It reminds me, guess who I saw?" It was the point of coming here, to subtly remind Arthur of his role in the game, and of how much she could turn into an advantage. "Lancelot." She smiled. "Hasn't changed a bit has he? Still the same old." Her choice of word was deliberate. She knew they were at the very least speaking. If Arthur saw her words as something else, picked up the subtle hidden meaning of 'Lancelot will try again' all the better.
"What with you sniffing at the Virgin Queen's skirts, I did my good deed for the month. Told him he and your little Guinevere should have a go at it. Nothing much stopping him now is there?" She wanted to see his reaction. New Queen or not, she'd not discount Guinevere until she had to.
Arthur took a deep breath and he chewed on his lip. "I saw Lancelot as well. You...you told him-" Arthur's breath caught in his throat. "Does Lancelot know where Guin is?!"
"Was I not suppose to? Dear me, I can never remember which secrets I am to keep, and which ones I am not." So predictable, her little brother. She'd toyed with Lancelot much in the same way. She half wondered what his new little Queen would think of his attachment to his former Queen.
"Asking the wrong person. But I gather he has some idea. If only that he knows she is here." She shrugged, "doubtful he would tell you little brother. He's always had his eye on the little flower, hasn't he? Now, he can actually make a true go of it. Do it all properly. You Knights so do relish your chivalry."
Arthur's jaw clenched and he tried to suppress his anger at hearing that. "Surely he would have told me..."
That made her raise an eyebrow, "really? Old habits are terribly hard to break you know." She shrugged, almost casually. And she knew if Merlin were here, she'd not get so deep into Arthur's unconscious worries. But he wasn't here and the game needed to continue being played.
"He's got no reason to confide in you Arthur. This is the woman he was willing to risk everything for. Why would he tell you she's here, or that now he's able to pursue her more actively?" She leaned into the chair and smiled. "Look at it this way, if he doesn't share it he can keep her all to himself. All the luck to him, really."
Arthur opened and closed his mouth several times before finally managing to say a rather feeble, "...but he said he wanted to make things right..."
Could Morgana be right though? Could Lancelot know where Guin was and be keeping her whereabouts from him?
And she hadn't even offered the killing blow. She'd wait to bring up George, perhaps even on another day. It would depend. "Come now Arthur, surely you can understand the appeal of a woman over a promise." She set her arms on the table and leaned forward. "Tell me you've never broken a promise over a woman and I call you a liar."
She shrugged, "he could wish to make it better, but if he's able to get your precious Guinevere all to himself? You can be sure he'll break it in a heartbeat."
"But you have your Elizabeth, correct? Let him have his happy ending."
He couldn't tell her he hadn't broken a promise over a woman because he honestly couldn't remember. But that didn't make him feel better.
"Leave Bess out of this," Arthur said quickly. "Lancelot told me he wanted to make things better between us. He said it was most important to him. I...can't believe he would keep knowledge of Guin from me."
She shrugged, "Why should I? She's a part of this isn't she? She plays a part." She sighed, "oh Arthur, always thinking so well of people." Smiling she rose. "Do yourself a favor dearest. Ask him."
She walked to him, always looking up but the height was ever deceptive. Arthur could be brought down if she needed him to. Slowly she went to set her fingers on his jaw, "and while you're doing your whole 'lets figure out secrets' thing ask your Elizabeth about her George. He is rather protective over her. Makes one wonder a bit about her true devotion to you. Wouldn't be the first time you've shared a woman after all."
Oh he planned to ask Lancelot now. He wasn't going to just forget this.
When Morgan mentioned George, his jaw tightened. He pulled his head back slightly, still intoxicated by her touch and unwilling to be. "Don't-" Arthur whispered to Morgan. "Just don't."
"As you wish my King," her words were laced with honeyed poison. He'd never been her King, now would ever be it. Smiling she stepped back. "It was good to talk to you Arthur. Do keep in touch."
She then stepped around him and left the office, knowing she had accomplished what she wanted by coming here.
