Who: Morgan Le Fay and Merlin
What: Merlin is a TROLL. Teacher-student reunions
When: Saturday
Where: Coffeeplace
While Morgan preferred the weather, the snow and cold just suited her, Spring wasn't all that bad. It was warm enough, now, to lounge on an outside terrace and watch the world walk by and it made up for all the emotions it brought out in everyone. Spring made people horribly happy, and she disliked that. Happy people annoyed her. So she blocked out the chatter nearby and raised her head into the sun.
She remembered times of sun and warmth, and just peace, but it was always hard to figure out exactly where that came from. Morgan was the daughter of a thousand births, and she'd long since stopped trying to keep track of it. It made the little bits of fragmented memory a bother, but she'd spend her existence living with it. It was just easier to accept, then move on.
And she would have, happily, done that but something familiar creeped over her spine. Instantly she was wary, expecting her brother. But it was worse. The familiar older male made her lips turn down and her good mood vanished. Setting him on fire in public would draw eyes so she just sighed and sipped from her drink. She set her eyes on his form, knowing he'd feel her in turn, and if he was here she may as well try and get under his skin. That and she could find out if he knew about Arthur.
Information was worth getting annoyed by Merlin for.

There was the smallest of smiles dancing on Merlin's lips as he approached the beautiful young woman at the table. (Beautiful, undeniably. Young, not quite.) He hadn't known she was going to be here, but how could be deny going over when he'd spotted her looking so displeased about his presence?
"Hello Morgan," he said, sitting down at her table without waiting for an invitation that wouldn't come. "This is an unexpected pleasure."

"Lying doesn't suit you old man. You know it isn't." All her carefully practiced niceties and people skills vanished around Merlin and her brother. Being personal, and on occasion seductive, was just another form of magic and she'd learned it well. She just refused to put those skills to use around the two men who kept making her the villain.
She sipped from her drink and leaned back in her chair. It kept her mood pleasant enough in public while in her minds eye she found several ways to end him. Sure he'd be back, but it kept her entertained while he was in her presence. "shouldn't your mouth be attached to my brother's backside? I remember how good you were at that."
She smiled then, as the game was on, the board was set and the pieces were being moved. "Or was it that his mouth was around your dick? Always tricky to remember."

Merlin laughed and looked so genuinely pleased to be there that anyone watching them must have thought them old friends instead of the only two players on the board who actually knew the game. "I'm not really into blonds," was what he said to her and took a sip of his own coffee. Then he asked, "been in the city long? I've not seen anything with your tell-tale marks for a long while."

She smiled and while it looked pleasant it wasn't. All the venom of a snake behind a pretty smile. That one, she knew well indeed. She made good use of it in her daily use running her bank. "I'm surprised. But oh I remember your type. Pretty and with a smile oh so sweet."
She set her cup down and set her forearms on the table, leaning closer. Men always tended to look and Morgan knew she was an appealing woman. She wouldn't have a string of lovers if she wasn't. "I'd give an arm to know how she did it old man. Smile pretty and snap you up." Not that she would. Merlin was too much like her and she'd had enough with people controlling her a long time ago.
Then she rolled her eyes, "I've been here long enough. Maybe you're just not looking in the right places."

"Nimue was a much better actress," Merlin told the witch, gesturing toward her with his coffee cup. "You lack the skills to hide that crazy behind your eyes."
"I suspect we don't move in the same circles," Merlin considered out loud. "I'm picturing you," he said, watching her thoughtfully, "in some sort of Lovecraftian cult, waiting for a chance to bring about the end of the world."

She laughed, "no I don't. I just don't care about using my skills on you. Otherwise I wouldn't have gotten someone to try and go after the sword." She'd only gotten the scabbard in the end, but she'd still managed to get someone to go after the one thing her brother had valued so highly. "I could do better anyway."
She rolled her eyes, "you'd be wrong. I wouldn't serve anyone, not even an Eldricht horror from beyond time and space. Nor do I want to end the world. No, I rather like the world as it is. I just want to change it a little. And what about you, still performing magic tricks for children and giving swords to people you think ought to rule?"

"Of course you could, dear," he assured her, not really working the hide the amused smile. He did, however, resist the urge to patronizingly pat her hand.
"Well, it's at least good to know you're versed in your Lovecraft," Merlin said with a nod. He would never deny - at least to himself - that Morgan had always been a clever thing - more clever than her brother, truly. "They appear to have decided on different ways to pick leaders these days, but it's really not doing them much good when you look around the country. The sword trick made for a much more suitable king than trusting in the people to choose."

She bit back the impulse to prove him wrong, but then he'd have something over her. Really she just wanted to claw his eyes out, but that'd be on her. She comforted herself by glaring at him and finishing her drink.
She shrugged, "I keep up to date on many a things." She waved the concern about politics aside. "I agree, and look the world still stands. Monarchies were always a bit more successful in keeping the populace controlled." She gave a snort and shook her head, "really? Because look how that turned out. Then again, some say she gave it to you Merlin, not to my little brother. Then again, he had too much of Uther in him. Apples and trees, and so forth." She shrugged. In truth she was tired of going after Arthur so often, but it was her path and she could only walk it. Even if the scenery had long ago bored her.
"He's here you know. So your King's on the board. Mine, I fear, will arrive all too soon. We can't resist the siren's call of the game, after all."

To the idea of what Might have happened and what Could have happened, Merlin gave only an enigmatic smile and said nothing. Anyway, Merlin thought it had all gone rather swimmingly considering the other options that the world had been laying down inside his head as possibilities. But seeing the future meant that he got to be the only one who saw when disasters were averted.
"Of course I know," Merlin said with a smile. "Pieces all lining up once more, rooks to the corners and knights to their armor, etcetera etcetera etcetera. New board at least," Merlin considered as he looked around the cafe, "and new pawns."

Shrugging she waved her hand, "I have moments where I can be nice. In a way." She tilted her head, "the fallen white knight's here, so is the former Queen. Although he's got a new one."
Enemy he may be, but Morgan liked to gossip on occasion, "although Camelot the board is not. And the board may change all it likes, the game never does. They may change their armor and their dress but they'll always dance the same old dance." Because she still remembered what she was before all this. "tedious and boring, but the only dance there is." She motioned to a server for her check. She could complain about all this in the safety of her home.

"Fate does like to make itself known loud and clear," Merlin said. He'd not met Arthur's new lady - the Queen Elizabeth, good choice - but he was aware of their involvement together.
"Come now, Morgan," Merlin chided, "don't tell me you've truly gotten bored of all of it. "

With a nod she paid her tab, giving the poor girl a tip as well. Morgan may be cruel, but only to those who had deserved it. "And often with a nasty bite at the end."
She sighed, "it's the same old game and I cannot stop walking the path. The scenery is just tiresome. I remember the before Merlin. What I was before mortals decided to make me into this. Something wicked this way comes is very...tiresome." She shrugged, "so, bored? Maybe. I feel time in my bones Merlin and even you are young sometimes. but it's what I've got. I just find ways to make it more interesting to myself. The old goal isn't exactly something I desire anymore."

Merlin considered her carefully as she spoke. Had Morgan been mortal he would have said something about how they all chose their own fate, about how each decision changed them. But Morgan was not mortal. She, like he, was a tale and they would not stop being told.
"The desire will return," Merlin told her. "We are our own stories and that can't be changed. You'll wake up one morning very soon and jump out of bed with delight at the idea of bringing down your brother."

"Oh I know it will, and before we both know it we'll be at one another's throats again." She sighed, "but bringing down Arthur now is so easy. He's going to get involved in politics, we both know that, and now I can bring him down with rumors and accusations." She shrugged. She'd learned the politics of this age very carefully.
"This age isn't exactly challenging to someone like me. Before I wasn't heeded because I had cleavage. Now my cleavage works to my advantage. I enjoyed the challenge and the chase Merlin. You can't tell me that now the board's shifted in my favor you're going to be happy about it."

"I won't deny it's not so much fun now," Merlin said. "We've both taken quite the downgrade on power levels and people have lost their naivety. Which is a pity - it makes them less interesting. Although," he added, "I find there's something to be said for the fact that I can sometimes be surprised these days. Omniscience can get dull," he smiled, "and I'm sure the lack of it will work to your advantage."

A weakness for a weakness. She was tired and he no longer knew everything in advance. It could work like that. "I'm sure it will, and I've gotten some back with recent interest. Not a lot, but some." She tapped her nails on the table before deciding to give him one last thing. "Cthonia. Look it up. Half my charms come from there now. I suppose if the Greek kills you it worked to my benefit."
Then she rose, "we'll see each other again Merlin. Pawns to front." she smiled to that. "I made my opening move. I'll see you counter it soon enough."

He noted the name she gave him and committed it to memory. He'd look it up later and see what it provided for him in the way of tactical advantage over Morgan.
"Take care, Morgana," he told her with a small smile of his own. "There's a lot of things to be done."
