Who: Merlin & Morgan le Fay
When: Thursday afternoon
Where: Morgan's apartment
What: Surprise visits from arch nemesisisisis
It was no trouble at all for Merlin to get into a locked building. The mortal doorman took the simplest of Jedi mind tricks and the lock of the apartment itself was a wristflick of magic and nothing more. If she'd put wards in place here they weren't intended to keep him out. (At least Merlin assumed as much. Morgana was strong and if she wanted him out he'd at least have to put in the effort to enter.)
Inside he poured himself a drink and walked around, looking at everything and touching nothing. It was interesting to see this place where she lived and slept and ate and plotted. A different world, this was, but they all had their creature comforts still.
He perused her bookshelf until he found something of interest and then sat down to flick through it while he waited for her to come home, book in one hand and drink in the other.

She had not put up wards to keep anyone out, because she'd assumed the old rules still held. Then too she'd stayed to her castle and done her plotting from there, and no one had scaled her walls.
So when she came home she, at first, saw nothing amiss. By the time she'd kicked of her heels and pulled her hair down she'd felt the presence in her home and stormed into her living room. Merlin's brand of aura she'd long learned the taste of and he shouldn't be here. This was her home and haven.
She glared at him and grabbed her phone. She could duel him, magic for magic, but that was exhausting and she needed her supply. Especially now it seemed she needed wards. "You have about five minutes to get
the hell out
before I call the police."

Merlin raised his eyes from the book and quirked an eyebrow at Morgan. "Police?" he asked her, truly surprised by the sheer idea. "Morgan, please don't tell me you really put your faith in mortal lawmakers these days." He'd always considered people like them above the law. Yes, yes, he was all for upholding the moral right - well, sort of - but that didn't mean he saw himself as the same as people like Arthur.

Without pausing she walked to his seat and snatched the book out of his hands before setting her hands on the arms of the chair and trapping him. "I put my faith in no one. I, however, have spend many days studying mortal law and how to abuse it. Not to mention I know exactly how much it costs to have the police and law work for me." She drew back and raised her chin, "so I can put you behind bars for a good time." She wasn't above making this new world work for her. Magic was an escape and while as easy as breathing she preferred not to count on it.
"So get out. You're not welcome here. I've stayed out of your lair. You can stay out of mine. That's how it's always been."

Merlin's smile was slow. "Now, now, Morgan," he chided her. "Do you think you're the only one in the new world who knows how to play with the law?" He stood then, taller than her and enjoying that. (To be so close to such a beautiful woman was a terribly dangerous thing- and even more dangerous when that woman was The Fate. Merlin was sometimes a fool, but he was wise enough to never try anything on this witch. That pretty face hid such ugliness.)
"But, of course, since you've asked so politely," he told her, making a gesture of open-handed defeat for her, "I see no reason to intrude any longer."

She hissed, eyes flashing with every inch of anger and hate she had. Looking up at someone had never bothered her, she took delight in abusing her smaller form against others at times, because it was easy to manipulate people then. She'd always worked with the sheer knowledge she could make everything work for her.
But right now she was fueled by hatred and anger and she reached out and went to strike Merlin across his cheek, dragging sharp nails across flesh for sheer after effect. Normally Morgan considered herself above physical violence, and when necessary she had someone else do it. But he was in her
home
and being irritatingly
Merlin
about it all.
Instinct had her magic clawing at her, thundering in her veins and she wanted him both gone and bleeding. Broken too, if fate would be so kind. "I will kill you for this."

A flash of pain moved through Merlin and his lip curled. She spoke her words and Merlin was offended by them, by her sheer existence. He was not above physical violence to take what he needed when magic didn't suffice, so he punched Morgan in the face with as much strength as he could muster.
Chivalry said to never strike a lady, but Merlin had never been all that chivalrous and Morgan wasn't a lady.

If it had been Arthur he'd have told her to hold her temper and she'd give him her prettiest smile and he'd let it go. But it wasn't Arthur and yet she was still surprised by the physical blow. She reeled back and spit blood and curses before going to her knees.
She wished she had her knife, or the little gun she had hidden in her bedside drawer. But she had nothing and he was the one with the superior strenght.
But she had her wits and her slyness. So she laughed and wiped the blood off her lips. "That the best you got, old man? Is that what you need to bring a woman to her knees? Should I beg some? Should I say please, oh please." She licked her blood from her lips, her words carrying the hint of a purr. She knew her skills, she knew how seduction worked. How many before had been drawn to her, because of the things she promised with her fingers, eyes and lips? And she knew the one thing that would make Merlin's skin crawl was to see all that used on him. So she raised an eyebrow and set her finger on her lips, licking the last of the blood up before rising. "My home, my rules, my game. You stepped right into the spiders trap Merlin. Let's see you run."

"You always looked best on your knees," Merlin told her, trying not to focus on the curve of her breast beneath her clothes, her tongue as it slipped from behind those lips. The blood that was terribly alluring. (He was a man of a different and darker time and power was everything. The taste of that blood was a magic forgotten in these times.)
Merlin had to remind herself that beneath that exterior Morgan was just like any other hag, foul and tempestuous.
"I don't run, my dear girl," he said, watching her. His mask was casual and carefree but beneath it he was anything but. She would know that though. Because she, like he, was always reading the situations around her and looking for the best route to take.

Dangle Merlin's weakness before him and she'd have him. Knowing she presented herself like this, knowing that she was the one woman who would never bow, would never kneel, would never break, and even more sacrilegious, was the one who considered herself his equal was reward enough. "You wouldn't know. You've never gotten me on them. Always had to hear about it I bet."
She categorized her injuries. A bruise and a split lip, but it would be to her advantage. Blood was a curious thing, and she knew him. A woman of a thousand different pasts was she, and one had his voice in her mind teaching her about all those things no one knew about anymore.
"Maybe you should start. I play this game well Merlin." She held his eyes as she brought the hand that had scratched him to her lips and oh so deliberately licked the traces of his blood of her nails. The last trace was licked of slowly and almost with relish and she let the tip of her nail rest on her bottom lip. "Is this what you taste like wizard? Brings back lessons doesn't it, teacher-mine?" Smiling she stepped forward, "shall I show you what I can teach?"

"You're still nothing but a silly little girl playing at being a woman," Merlin told her. Her focused not on her form but on the signature of her power. She couldn't be underestimated, this one. He would never fall into her traps like some mortal man. He knew her too well. He'd taught her too well.
When she stepped forward he made no move to back away. Magic he could use here but it didn't feel quite right. Perhaps it was only that he didn't want to be the first one to open up that playing field.
"Always such games, Morgan," he sneered and then snaked out a hand, wrapping it around her neck and digging his fingers in.

She froze the second his fingers dug into her neck. He wasn't the first to do this to her, nor would he be the last. A long time ago she'd learned that letting someone think they were stronger, had the upper hand, ended up in the longer victory.
Instead she went slack and smiled, fishing for that boiling point in her blood. She found it, just there, and curled it into her veins. Her magic was at the ready, but not out. She would not use it to push him back, wouldn't open that Pandora's box, until it was needed.
"And who taught me them hm?" Her voice was still low and she let her hands fall to her sides. She'd almost had him before he remembered her. She had to try, to see if he was no better then all the others who she played seductress for. She'd seduced Arthur, the valiant chivalrous Knight, Merlin shouldn't be too hard.
"We are made of games, the two of us. But you caught me now Wizard. What will you do? Hurt me more? Make me tell you pretty please?"

Merlin sneered and dropped her throat, a look of disgust crossing his features. (How he'd love to see her beg him, to have her dominated, but that wasn't going to happen. Morgan only played the weak-willed woman - she was anything but that. And that strength was why he had always liked her. It was why he'd taken her in and taught her, because she had always been more than some pretty girl no matter what she feigned.)
"You've lost your sharp edge," he said, shaking his head as he took a step back from her. "What happened to my worthy opponent? Have you been so worn down by this world that you're nothing more now than a dull blade?"

She was surprised he'd bring this up to her. She'd told him how the game tired her, but with Arthur on the board and her own King on the horizon she had no choice but to play. She'd hardly scratched though, finding this new world lacking of challenge.
She wiped off the blood, "an unused blade had no purpose Merlin. The game started, but the challenge is lost. I make but one move to get your King off the board." She shrugged, "where is my challenge? My purpose is to get the King off the board, my goal is to destroy his kingdom." She brushed her hair out of her face and brushed off her clothing. "I have a different face for every time. The shackles on my wrists are different every time. They are changing now. My goal is so pointless, even if Arthur gains the thing he wants." She sighed, "I told you before the challenge drives me. Provide me one and I regain my sharpness. I told you this before Merlin. This new world is everything I wanted before, but now proves to taste of ash."

There was the hint of a smile at the edge of Merlin's lips and already he was considering things, options for where to move next and which words to place where.
"Then a challenge is what you shall have, my dear," Merlin promised her, leaning in just enough that he could pitch the words lower and make them a secret shared. "A world without le Fay at her best is not a world I wish to make a play for." It was no fun to be the best if there was no one worthy of being better then.

And this was why they understood each other. They were always at opposite sides, even if she played to gain her brother's throne, for Arthur was only a piece on the board.
She smiled, because he enjoyed it just as she did. "Good. Don't come into my home again Merlin. I never invaded your haven." She raised her head just so and kept her smile, "and it's your move old man. All but one are on the board for me."

Merlin watched his smile with one of her own. "Of course, my lady Morgana. A woman's home is her temple, I've heard."
After that he made his way towards the door and then turned back to look at her. "I'm sure I'll be seeing you sooner than we expect," he told her and then carried on, exiting out the front door and whistling a quiet tune from the days of Camelot.
