Who: Deirdre of the Sorrows and Briseis What: Gushing When: Tuesday night Where: Their place Warning: TBD
When Deirdre came home that evening it was with a bunch of papers in hand. Setting up something for her people was a bit complicated but she had an idea. It'd mean she'd have to get dressed up, something she was never fond of, but it'd be lovely. She hoped. The fact that she hoped it would generate some interest in her tale was a second thought, with the bad taste it would also aid Conchobar.
And him she'd rather kick in the river.
But she also had plans to join a few dancing groups and get back into something she enjoyed doing. She'd missed that. She may not be able to play a note to save her life, but music was in her blood. All things to stop her from going into her old routine of sulking and thinking the worst was just around the corner. Perseus helped loads, and thinking of him made her smile.
She set the papers down and moved into the kitchen to make herself some tea. She had to temper her desire to act with impulse with logic. Running with impulse was what had gotten her in her mess in the first time so she wasn't anxious to replay all that. She hummed under her breath as the tea cooked, leaning down to pet her dog with a grin.

In the kitchen it was Gandalf and Deirdre that she found, and she leaned in the doorway with a smile. "You're in a good mood," she said.

[info]depthofsorrow 2012-03-06 05:24 am (local) (link) Track This Grinning she nodded and took down another mug for her friend. "Yes. I like it. If I let myself think I'll just slump and be sad. And I have no more reason to be sad." she made a face, "well only one reason but I shouldn't let it get me down."
Smiling she let the water boil. "I'm going to put something together for Irish descendants to know about their history. I plan on focusing on the parts I know. I'll have to dig out patterns for a dress. And you, feeling alright?"

[info]spoil_of_war 2012-03-06 05:30 am (local) (link) Track This Briseis nodded and smiled. "I actually sleep alright last night, so I'm in a good mood. You know," she told Deirdre, "you have such a beautiful time. It's so nice to see it." Then she made a face at herself. "God, that sounded so patronizing. Forgive me for pretending to be your mother just then." She came over and nodded at the paperwork. "What sort of things are you going to be writing about?"

[info]depthofsorrow 2012-03-06 05:37 am (local) (link) Track This She gave a brighter grin, "wonderful. I'm so glad you got some sleep. I would have looked up my gods if it had continued." She hardly prayed or spoke of her god. Part of her blamed them for the mess she'd found herself in. Then she laughed, "no it's fine. Thank you. I don't mind either."
"I want to write about what I remember. How I lived. People may not know what it was like and few movies show it. All the good and the bad." She shrugged, "I plan on making a little get together. Call it 'A Celtic Evening' or something along those lines." She poured the tea once it was finished, "it's strange. I spend so long running away from things like that and it would have been my duties as queen. Playing host and things like that. Maybe I don't mind because this time it's out of choice rather then obligation to a man I didn't want."

[info]spoil_of_war 2012-03-06 06:20 am (local) (link) Track This Briseis was secretly glad that gods hadn't needed to be contacted, even if they weren't her own. She couldn't fault anyone for having faith - at least not out loud - but she certainly didn't want to be brought to anyone powerful's attention.
Briseis slid her tea cup towards herself, nodding as she listened to Deirdre. "Can I come along when you have it?" she asked her. "Sounds like it could be really great. But I get where you're coming from - things that seemed like a trial are always better when you get to choose them yourself." Speaking of... "How are you and Perseus going?"

[info]depthofsorrow 2012-03-06 06:32 am (local) (link) Track This "Of course," she would be happy to have Briseis there. She had a feeling Conchobar would sniff her out and make a scene. And she always froze around him, so it'd be nice to have someone who could speak up for her.
She grinned then ducked her head, figuring it answered almost everything. "Really great. I have moments I'm convinced it'll all end in more tears but I push that aside." Laughing she rolled her eyes, "I have it pretty bad. I'm teaching him Gaelic curses now, ad getting Greek ones in return."

[info]spoil_of_war 2012-03-06 10:57 am (local) (link) Track This "I'll wear something decent and try not to embarrass you," she promised Deirdre with a small smile.
"Trading curses of your native tongues," Briseis said, impressed. "Getting serious." Then she grinned at the other woman to show she was teasing before blowing on her tea and taking a sip. (She hadn't told Deirdre but after the Irish queen had started dating Perseus, Briseis had spent a long time on the internet looking up every story about him she could find. It turned out that he wasn't as bad as a lot of the so-called 'heroes' of the Greeks - even her Achilles, who was generally considered one of the more decent ones, had demanded the murder of a teenage girl for his spirit. Still, that didn't mean that Briseis hadn't taken Perseus aside and threatened him quite heavily if he tried to hurt Deirdre. Briseis didn't even care that she was a foot shorter than Perseus and he was built of muscles. She'd protect Deirdre to the ends of the earth.)

[info]depthofsorrow 2012-03-06 06:40 pm (local) (link) Track This Smiling she sipped from her drink, "I can make you something. None of my old dresses made it, but I have the patterns. You'd look lovely in one."
She blushed and ducked her head, "oh hush." She couldn't hide her smile though and sipped from her drink before setting it down. "It's nice. I have times where I'm so sure Conchobar is going to try and ruin it all, but I manage. I remind myself to take it slow." She gave a shake of her head before biting her lip, "there's more but I don't want to give you too much detail."

[info]spoil_of_war 2012-03-14 11:40 am (local) (link) Track This "I'll trust in your judgment," Briseis nodded with a grin, completely unsure of the sort of clothes Deirdre must have worn but able to conjure up a vague image. She pictured something more... medieval-looking and restrictive than what she had worn in Greece - especially as most of her life had been lived as little more than a slave.
Deirdre's blush was adorable and Briseis couldn't help chuckling softly. "I'll be ladylike then and not press for details," she said with a wink. "Conchobar isn't going to get a chance to ruin it though. You've got too many of us rooting for you now for him to do anything."

[info]depthofsorrow 2012-03-14 12:00 pm (local) (link) Track This Smiling she sipped from her tea, "any colors you would like?" The dresses had been restrictive, which is why she'd favored the kind her foster mother had worn. She'd only ever worn the trappings of the station forced on her for one occasion.
She sighed, "you don't know his determination. His patience and his cunning. He all but sold me because I wasn't willing to speak to him." she shrugged, "I worry. For obvious reasons. But he can't do any of that anymore. I don't belong to him anymore, regardless of his opinion. He's got plenty of other women." Then she blushed again and bit on her lip, "I'll try not too share too much."
She gave a soft laugh, "but he's the first man I have felt...pleasure with. Not to say Naoise didn't make me feel it but I know now he had no idea how to share it with me. Back then, women weren't exactly expected to enjoy themselves. And I spend a lot of time studying the ceiling with Conchobar."

[info]spoil_of_war 2012-03-14 12:47 pm (local) (link) Track This "Purples?" Briseis suggested. "Or blue? I like those for clothes."
With Conchobar, Briseis had decided that she would take it as it came with him. There was no way she was letting that man get a hold of her and she felt much better knowing Deirdre lived with her now.
Briseis nodded, understanding completely. "Ancient Greece wasn't exactly friend with the idea of female sexuality either. Respectable women had sex only to have children while their husbands could go out and do whatever they liked with those unfortunate enough to be prostitutes. So it wasn't until I got here that I learned any better either." She smiled brightly. "I much prefer now."

[info]depthofsorrow 2012-03-14 12:59 pm (local) (link) Track This Smiling she nodded, "I'll need measurements so you'll have to indulge me for a moment or two."
She sighed, "I have to agree. I think it was only until ten years ago I discovered I was allowed to feel nice and how to get there." She shook her head. "And I spend a good year feeling almost bad about that one." She sighed, then shrugged. "I was never with many. Mortals get complicated and the curse plays up more around them. But this, now, with him is nice. He's very easy to fall for."

[info]spoil_of_war 2012-03-15 11:26 am (local) (link) Track This "Considering that even these days women feel guilty about sex, you don't need to worry to much about that one," Briseis said with a small sigh. They'd come so far from where they were, but in so many ways women were still trapped in old roles.
She reached out and squeezed Briseis' hand with a smile. "That he makes you happy is the very best thing. I have to admit I was worried to start with - I don't really trust heroes but seeing you like this proves me wrong, and I'm glad about that."

[info]depthofsorrow 2012-03-15 11:33 am (local) (link) Track This She just shook her head, "it's strange. I wish I knew how to fight that better." Smiling she returned the squeeze on her hand. "I'm glad for your concern. My judgement isn't always the greatest." She released her friends hand and made a face, "I keep bringing the conversation to myself. It's rather annoying."
